What You Can Contribute
This position is flexible, allowing volunteers to use their strengths in areas such as:
• Creative Arts: Teaching drawing, painting, music, dance, or drama to help children express themselves and develop their creativity.
• Sports and Recreation: Coaching soccer, basketball, or other games to promote physical health, teamwork, and discipline.
• Vocational Skills: Sharing practical knowledge in tailoring, carpentry, agriculture, computer literacy, or other trades that empower families economically.
• Health and Hygiene: Conducting sessions on proper sanitation, nutrition, and first aid to promote healthier living.
• Mentorship and Life Skills: Guiding children and young people on goal-setting, communication, leadership, and decision-making.
We encourage you to bring any additional skills that can enhance the wellbeing of our community.
Responsibilities
• Work closely with Daydream Ministries’ staff to identify community needs and align your skills with our programs.
• Plan and implement activities or training sessions based on your area of expertise.
• Engage with children and community members, fostering an environment of trust, learning, and inclusivity.
• Collaborate with other volunteers to maximize impact and sustainability of the programs.
• Provide feedback and recommendations to improve future initiatives.

• No formal qualifications required—just a passion for helping others and the ability to commit your time and skills.
• Prior experience in volunteering, teaching, or community engagement is welcome but not mandatory.

Commitment Requirements

Opportunity Details
* Assists individuals and families in the identification of goals and objectives to manage their finances and/or meeting their housing needs.* Provides one-on-one housing and/or financial counseling for clients seeking assistance with rental or homeowner issues, financial management, home purchase, and credit management.
* May conducts group education on various topics, including financial management, homeownership, and foreclosure prevention. Develops additional education offerings as needed/directed.
* Provides follow up case management for clients as necessary and in accordance with the client’s action plan. Accurately records client data in the appropriate client management system, effectively manages the confidential financial information of clients, and maintains case files for all clients in accordance with agency and HUD standards.
* Logs and returns voice mail messages to provide timely follow up with clients and potential applicants.
* Maintain accurate and current information about resources in the community and make referrals to appropriate agencies for services which the program cannot meet.
* Maintains knowledge of housing and financial counseling industry standards, and practices
* Demonstrates sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
* Demonstrates strong interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, oral, and written skills.
* Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat applications
- Must have the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Must possess or attain certification as HUD Certified Housing Counselor within six (6) months of appointment
- Must be located in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must reside within the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Must NOT be an active real estate broker/agent, insurance broker/agent, or mortgage broker/agent

What You’ll Need to Join Us
To maintain a professional and welcoming environment for mall shoppers, all volunteers must:

- Wear black, professional attire suitable for a retail setting
- Gift wrapping experience is preferred but not required—we’ll teach you how to wrap gifts like a pro if needed!

The Holiday Gift Wrapping Station will operate during The Amazing Brentwood’s full mall hours, located on the 2nd floor above the Grand Lobby. The Alliance for Children’s Rights protects the rights of impoverished, abused, and neglected children and youth by providing free legal and social services for children, young adults, and families involved with the child welfare system. Our pro bono partners are among Los Angeles’ best and brightest attorneys. Together, we advocate for healthcare, education, and financial support for families created by adoption, foster care, and guardianship. With your help, we also address the needs of foster youth leaving care without a permanent family. Through our pro bono attorneys, we have helped more than 170,000 children, youth, and families achieve safe, stable homes over the past three decades. Opportunities for pro bono partnership include:• Adoption - Pro bono attorneys prepare documentation to finalize adoptions and represent adoptive parents at unopposed hearings. The typical time commitment is 10-15 hours across 2-3 months.
• Probate Legal Guardianship - Pro bono attorneys prepare the petition and represent caregivers at hearing in unopposed cases. The typical time commitment is 15-20 hours across 2-4 months.
• Education Advocacy - Pro bono attorneys negotiate with School Districts and Regional Centers to obtain Individualized Education Programs (IEP) or Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP). Mediation is occasionally required. The typical time commitment is 30-50 hours across 3-6 months.
• Youth Transitioning Out of Foster Care - Pro bono attorneys mentor and/or assist youth with identity theft, accessing public benefits, taxes, contracts, sealing juvenile records, and clearing tickets and warrants. They also develop and deliver life skills workshops to youth in related areas.
• Foster Care Benefits and SSI - Pro bono attorneys prepare briefs, question experts, and present evidence at administrative hearings. The typical time commitment is 40-60 hours across 4-6 months.
• Impact Litigation, Research, and Policy Work - Pro bono attorneys litigate, research and/or develop policies related to systemic problems in the dependency system.
Cases are extensively screened by the Alliance and supported and supervised by Alliance staff attorneys and directors. Training (1.5 hours), manuals, and sample documents will be made available. Pro bono opportunities are available year-round. Typical time commitments range from 10 - 60 hours over 2 - 6 months.
