“My Nankind Angel volunteer helped alleviate some of the burdens by giving me a couple of hours to spend focusing on myself and what I needed to do to get better. I could rest assured and focus on my wellness and appointments knowing my kids were in safe hands.”
Nankind Mom

Imagine a world where every family with cancer receives the care needed for their children – so they have enough time to care for themselves. Now, also imagine a world where every child receives the support they need to cope with their parent’s illness or death.

Nankind (Formerly, Nanny Angel Network) offers rewarding volunteer positions for skilled childcare providers who are looking to make a difference in the lives of families.

By visiting weekly, building trust, and having fun, Nankind Angels helps parents gain confidence and peace of mind, knowing their children are cared for and supported by knowledgeable and compassionate volunteers while they get the time to rest or attend appointments.

Nankind volunteers receive specialized training including grief and bereavement and receive the support of NAN’s Child Life Specialist throughout their volunteering time.

Make a Difference in a child's life, Become a Volunteer Angel!

Our mission at Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) is to change the culture of youth sports so that every child, regardless of social or economic circumstance, has access to a positive youth sports experience. Part of the way we accomplish that is by recruiting, training, and connecting aspiring coach mentors with sports organizations that are looking for volunteers, paid/stipend staff, to help support the capacity of their program. Purchase (and pay for materials), assemble, and deliver 20-50 welcome baskets for adults moving from incarceration into supportive transitional housing at YWCA Passage Point in Maple Valley. Upon confirmation, contact will provide a list of 45 items needed (i.e. bedroom, bath and kitchen supplies) for each basket at a total cost of approximately $155 per basket.

YWCA Passage Point offers supportive housing and services to previously incarcerated parents, empowering them in the reunification process with their children by providing a stable environment. This program equips parents with the necessary tools and skills through educational and social opportunities reducing the chances of re-incarceration.

The welcome baskets created through this volunteer opportunity will be given to new households upon arrival at Passage Point to help parents recently released from incarceration set up their new apartment and gain a fresh start that will help them reunite with their children.

The Pet Food Pantry is a community resource to assist low-income families and individuals in the City of Los Angeles experiencing financial hardship who need help feeding their animal companions.

The LAAS Pet Food Pantry program receives large donation trucks full of pet food and LAAS volunteers meet at our service centers to unload the pet food in order to disseminate these donations to low-income families in Los Angeles that are struggling to feed their pets.

LAAS Pet Food Pantry is available at three of our locations, East Valley, North Central, and Chesterfield Square (South LA), and feeds over 1100 pets each week. Pet food resources can dwindle in many sectors of animal care, so we also use these large pet food donations to help other shelters, foster programs, and local rescues with their pet food needs.

We need you to join our volunteers in unloading the donation truck, and sorting and organizing the food. Together we can finish the task faster, burn some calories, and end up feeding over 1100 pets.

This community intervention is vital in helping reduce the amount of owner-surrendered animals coming to our shelters and keeping those pets in their homes with their families.

YWCA has been at the forefront of the most pressing social movements for more than 160 years — from voting rights to civil rights, from affordable housing to pay equity, from violence prevention to health care reform. Today, YWCA combines programming and advocacy in order to generate institutional change in three key areas: racial justice and civil rights, empowerment and economic advancement of women and girls, and health and safety of women and girls.

Volunteers are needed to help support YWCA in these key areas. Tasks will include sorting items in the warehouse that will be sent to their childcare centers, cleaning the warehouse (sweeping, wiping down, etc.), preparing bags for YWCA's Male Conference, and more.

Note: Volunteers must be 18 years or older or 14 -17 years old with a chaperone.

Did you know that that 58% of all food produced is wasted or lost, meanwhile, 1 in 5 households in British Columbia go hungry? Making matters worse, the emissions from decomposing organic waste in Canadian landfills currently account for 20% of national methane emissions.

Vancouver Food Runners is seeking volunteer food drivers (Food Rescue Heroes!) to join our network of passionate volunteer drivers. You will pick up excess perishable food from a community donor (bakery, green grocer or restaurant) and distribute it to those who need it most. We have partnered with charitable organizations such as the YWCA, local neighbourhood houses, shelters and schools to help put a stop to hunger right in our very own city.

How is Vancouver Food Runners different?

We use an app to coordinate food runs for our volunteers to access. Once a volunteer claims a food rescue, they can find their way to the donor and their final destination with the push of a button. Be a part of the solution by diverting viable food destined for the landfill and, instead, delivering it into the mouths of Vancouver’s most vulnerable and food insecure.

Join us in putting an end to hunger and bringing us closer to Zero Waste in our city. Download our app now to get started:
