Together We Rise is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the way youth navigate through the foster care system in the United States. Join us and help assemble 50 clothing bundles for high-risk foster teens both locally and in New York. By helping us assemble these clothing bundles, you ensure these youth receive the essential clothing and hygiene products they need to empower them during this vulnerable time in their lives. In addition, you will be helping us prepare for the launch of our Rise clothing store, which will provide local teenagers in foster care with basic essentials designed to promote confidence, bodily autonomy, and body positivity. Your help and support will show a teen in foster care that they are cared for, remembered, and worthy.*** THIS EVENT IS LIMITED TO KOHL'S VOLUNTEERS

A Family For Every Child's 14th annual Princess For a Day event is coming up this May 15th at the Valley River Inn! Princess For a Day provides a unique experience that lasts a lifetime and creates unforgettable memories for foster children and community children alike, while raising funds in support of at-risk youth and foster children. Kids of all ages and backgrounds enjoy a fun-filled day of pampering fit for royalty. They get a full princess makeover, including hair styling, makeup, accessories, and shoes and a dress to take home and keep. They get to walk a red carpet, meet their favorite Disney princesses in person, and attend a royal tea party. Each year, over 300 kids across the state join us for this magical day.A Family For Every Child's two child-oriented events, Princess For a Day and Hero For a Day, provide free days of excitement and pampering to marginalized foster children who might not be able to afford or access similar events. Funds raised at these events support A Family For Every Child’s 13 core programs year round, including the Adoption Agency, Host Home Youth Homelessness Program, Mentorship Program, Heart Gallery, and more. We are confident that this year will be our best event yet, and with your help we can further our goal of finding forever families for every child waiting in foster care.
We need volunteers in all areas of the event, including but not limited to:
Moving Day
Friday, May 13th
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Castle Storage
120 S. Danebo Ave, Eugene OR
We need help moving boxes and dress racks from a storage unit onto a U-Haul! This will likely take less time, and we need all the help we can get! This is a great way to quickly volunteer with your friends, coworkers, or family.
Event Set-Up
Saturday, May 14th
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Valley River Inn
1000 Valley River Way, Eugene OR
Saturday is our event set-up day! From help unloading the U-Haul to sorting inventory to blowing up balloons, this is one of the largest areas of need we have. Saturday we also do pre-event food prep, and are in need of help making sandwiches and wraps. This is a perfect chance to volunteer with a large group.
Registration
Sunday, May 15th
9:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Valley River Inn
1000 Valley River Way, Eugene OR
Want to welcome families to the event? This is a great position for you! The registration table greets families as they enter, hands out nametags to volunteers, helps usher families into the event, answers questions, and more.
Hair and Makeup Room
Sunday, May 15th
9:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Valley River Inn
1000 Valley River Way, Eugene OR
One of the largest aspects of the event, our Princess makeover team is a necessary component of the event! You don't need to be a professional hair stylist or makeup artist to volunteer in this area. Volunteers in this room perform basic hair styling (curling, ponytails, braiding, etc.), apply simple makeup, paint nails, and help the kids pick out their tiaras and hair accessories. This is a fantastic room to volunteer with your friends, coworkers, or family.
Dress and Accessories Room
Sunday, May 15th
9:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Valley River Inn
1000 Valley River Way, Eugene OR
Volunteers in this area do a little bit of everything! In this room, we need help counting and labeling dresses, hanging up and folding apparel, rotating inventory, and helping kids choose their outfits. Volunteers who are good at organization and work well with people will excel at this room.
Tea Party Room
Sunday, May 15th
9:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Valley River Inn
1000 Valley River Way, Eugene OR
Volunteers in this area serve food, supervise the ballroom, and bus tables. Great volunteers in this area are attentive: answering questions, helping with dietary restrictions, and addressing problems if they arise.
Tear Down
Sunday, May 15th
5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Valley River Inn
1000 Valley River Way, Eugene OR
This is one of the biggest volunteer needs each year! After the last family leaves the event, the dresses and inventory are packed up, the equipment is put away, and the U-haul is loaded back up. This process goes very quickly with many volunteers, and we need all the help we can get! Please consider adding this shift to other areas you sign up for, and helping us clean up and put everything away after the event ends

See beauty, be beauty - we encourage our youth, who have suffered from trauma and abuse, to find the beauty in the world around them in order to better see the beauty in themselves. By providing volunteers to landscape and beautify our cottage, you are helping our young women see that beauty exists everywhere, especially within each of them. We have opened this opportunity for any date in the month of April for shifts of 3 to 4 hour period. In Kentucky, the state with the highest child abuse rate, Maryhurst is saving kids’ lives. Our work prevents abuse, restores hope, and empowers survivors.
At the first sign of conflict, Maryhurst’s counseling program partners with families to strengthen relationships and protect kids’ safety. For girls whose histories of trauma have left them without a safe home, our residential programs provide a place of healing. As soon as kids are ready, our transitional living and aftercare services create pathways to permanency, stability and better futures.
We believe that strong family relationships are the foundation of healthy growth. Some form of family development — be it strengthening existing bonds or building new ones — is a goal we set with every child in our care
