The goal of this event is to raise money for the Children's Advocacy Alliance so that we can further our mission of providing hope, healing and a voice for justice for abused and neglected children in our community. Additional funding will allow us to recruit and train more volunteer advocates for our CASA program to work with children in the foster care system. This is our third annual Back to School Blowout where we give away clothing to families from area communities in order to lessen the burden of shopping for back-to-school. Starting in April, we begin collecting donated clothing. Throughout the summer, clothing is sorted and stored in a large storage unit which we receive at a discounted rate. Once all clothing is sorted by gender and size, it is reboxed and transferred back to the giveaway site. In our first event in 2017, over 60 volunteers helped throughout the giveaway, setting up tables, folding clothes, and manning stations during the event itself. We were able to serve over 175 families and over 400 children. In 2018, that number increased and we anticipate the number increasing this year once again. As part of the giveaway, we also purchased new socks and underwear for children of all ages to help further offset shopping costs. With additional funding, we'd like to broaden this to also include gym shoes to help parents with that school supply.Available Shifts
