The CASA programs of Harrison and Marion Counties in WV will be holding the 7th annual CASA Superhero 5K in Bridgeport, WV. This event brings the community together as a league of superheroes to raise funds for abused and neglected children. With a continual rise in the number of children entering foster care, our needs have never been greater.

The event will be at White Oaks in Bridgeport with a 5K run/walk beginning at 8:30am and the Kids' VIllain Chase at 10am. We are seeking volunteers from the community to assist with setup, informational tables, and along the race route to ensure runners are staying on course.

This event is critical to helping us raise the funds we need to recruit, screen and train CASA volunteer advocates for these children involved in the child abuse and neglect cases in our counties. Additionally, the funds help us to meet the needs of these children.

The Best Buddies Friendship Walk is the number one walk in the country raising awareness and funds to support inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). When you walk with us, you can also expect to dance, laugh, smile and make a new friend. It will be one big party! But the best part? You’ll be growing your local Best Buddies programs dedicated to one-to-one friendships, leadership development, integrated employment, and inclusive living opportunities for individuals with IDD. Every walk is the chance to show our communities how far we’ve come. It’s also the perfect way to celebrate the abilities and uniqueness within of us all. Join us! The party wouldn’t be the same without you.

We would love help from Kohl's Cares volunteers to assist with the set up and sale of merchandise at the Best Buddies Boutique tent AND ask them to create a walk team and join us on the route!

This year we are also celebrating on May the Fourth - the unofficial Star Wars day and are encouraging participants to come in costume!

We need help during #DiaperHour to help take care of visitors & distribute Diapers!

What type of Volunteer work would I be doing? When you first arrive, we’d need help with unpacking diapers & organizing everything in our office as needed to prepare for the #DiaperHour. During #DiaperHour, your main task will be helping ‘Awesome Moms’ fill out application, explain the programs, and helping them bring down the diapers to their car. (we’re on 2nd floor) Based on our need, we may also ask you to help with wrapping diapers, organizing, doing inventory, or other important task that needs to be done. Most of all, we need our volunteer to be helpful & make ‘Awesome Moms’ feel welcome during our #DiaperHour!

We need your help. It is with great excitement that we invite you to participate in a very special anniversary event. The Fred Lang Foundation 16th Annual Summer Ball: A Summer of Love celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Charlotte Behavioral Health Care (1969 - 2019). The event, presented by the Fred Lang Foundation on July 20, 2019, funds critical behavioral health services provided by Charlotte Behavioral Health Care (CBHC).

CBHC is our area’s largest not-for-profit provider of community-based behavioral health care, offering a full range of mental health and substance use services.

The statistics are startling:
• Last year, we served over 12,000 individuals and families – 3,000 of which were children
• Florida currently ranks in the 49th percentile for mental health funding.
• Most recent statistics show that suicide is the 9th leading cause of death in Florida – in sports, being in the Top 10 is a good thing, but suicide is one thing that no one wishes to see in a Top 10 list.
• Charlotte County’s suicide rate is higher than the Florida average (15.9% versus Florida’s 14.1%)
• CBHC houses our area’s Crisis Stabilization Unit (where we unfortunately, have had children as young as 4 years old).

With your support of the Fred Lang Foundation Summer Ball, we can continue to provide much-needed mental health services to our community. In this day and age, funds are needed now more than ever. All funds raised at the Summer Ball will be used to help our county’s residents.

Last year’s Summer Ball raised over $60,000, which went to provide urgent therapy and mental health care services for children in our community through CBHC’s Margo Lang Children Crisis Stabilization Unit as well as other mental health services provided within our community at CBHC.

CBHC’s mission is to partner to instill hope, inspire growth, and embrace life. We deliver care that changes people’s lives – and often saves them. We are counting on you to partner with us in that mission. Without your help, CBHC would not be able to fill the gaps and expand its programs and services within our community.

Our hope is that you will support our mission by volunteering at our annual fundraiser, helping to check in guests at the event and check them out when the event winds down. Boxed dinners will be provided for you to enjoy during the in-between stage.
