we have recently had a request from Children's Hope to request beanies for the babies in Mongolia. They said as being the second coldest country in the world, doctors recommend every baby to wear a knitted hat the minute they are born to maintain body heat much like the theory of NICU babies. They need a donation of 500-1,000 newborn sized hats so we are trying to collect this number from our members. As to date we have collected about 600 hats. We would need them to be mailed to our headquarters in Los Angeles by the week of March 11 as their container will be shipped out from US Port the week of March 25th. Apologetically they just recently reached out to us so the timeline is kind of tight. Our members will truly be "madly" knitting for this project. Any number of hats completed by our members will be so greatly appreciated.

Only thing is we also just received a message from Mongolia that the average Mongolian newborn babies heads are slightly bigger than the average baby, so they need the attached size. Please kindly see attached size.

A message from their organization to our members:
"I want your knitters to know how much impact one single hat will make for the babies in poverty here in Mongolia."

Opportunity Details

Sign up to cook dinner for the special children in our Emergency Shelters and their attending caregivers! For this service, volunteers will help prepare a dinner for the foster care children residing in our two shelters, Davidson and Najim homes. After serving the meal, volunteers will assist with dishes and cleanup the kitchen. This service is suitable for adults 18 years and older.

Be a buddy! Join us at Youth Villages for Runners Club. This program is a great way for individuals and organizations to plug in with our youth. You do not need to be a runner to participate, in fact, most of our youth prefer to walk. The goal of Runners Club is to focus on movement and discipline, making a goal and sticking to it!

Our youth are rewarded with some great prizes for their miles, and this is a chance for you to help them get there, making great connections along the way.

*Volunteers will complete a confidentiality & liability waiver as well as a 30-minute volunteer orientation prior to engaging with youth.

Bayside Toy Library is a not-for-profit toy-lending service (for children aged between 6 months and 10 years) which provides families with access to a variety of educational items to assist with childhood development. It also encourages environmentally and economically sustainable behavior in our community.

The library needs your support to do any or all of the following;
• Check toys are returned in good condition and return the toys to the shelves.
• Catalogue new toys
• Help organise toy backlog
• Sort donations
• Light cleaning of toys
• Organise shelves
• Find and reunite missing pieces with toys
• General library maintenance

All you need to bring is a smile and your sense of fun and love of children.

Opportunity Details

We take excess locally grown produce and dehydrate it in order that nutrient rich meals can be sent around the world to those facing food insecurity or are displaced by war or natural disaster. In 2 hours a group of 20 people can prepare 8000 meals. Volunteers are able to sort, wash, and prepare produce to be put on trays and loaded into the dehydrator. Then the dehydrator is unloaded and dehydrated produce is bagged, labeled, and packed for shipping.
