Are you looking for a way to give back to your community? Do you want to work with a young person who needs support, care, and a role model?

Be A Mentor is partnering to support youth impacted by substance misuse and we are looking for caring, trusting adults in the East Bay to mentor, support, and advocate for them!

This is an in-person mentoring program. This mentoring opportunity will begin with an 8 week cohort of mentors and mentees meeting together in Oakland or Hayward. During this time, mentors and mentees will get to know each other and at the end of the 8 weeks, you will be matched with one mentee for one calendar year. You'll spend at least two hours a week with your mentee in the community exploring, talking, learning about and advocating for their needs.

All mentors are required to complete a background check and training. Our mentoring coordinator will be available for support throughout the program. We ask that you commit to at least 2-hours per week for a full calendar year. Consistency is important to build trust between you and your mentee.

We have a strong need for BIPOC mentors to support and connect with our diverse mentees. Although we welcome everyone with an interest in mentoring to sign up!

At Good Shepherd Services, we understand that the cost of backpacks and school supplies can burden many children, youth, and families in New York City. As the new school year approaches, many families are facing the challenge of providing essential supplies for their children.

Join us at our Back to School Bash and Bookbag Giveaway on Saturday 9th at JHS 292. Together we can lighten their load and ensure every student has a fresh start.

Last year, thanks to the generosity of our partners and supporters, we were able to provide backpacks and supplies to 200 youth in Good Shepherds program and community members. This year, the need has increased, and we’re counting on your support to ensure that every student has the tools they need to succeed in their education.

Our goal this year is to supply 380 students with brand-new backpacks filled with school supplies. And we need your help to make it happen!

By volunteering at our Back To School Bash, you’ll be giving children who attend the opportunity to focus on their studies and feel confident as they embark on the new school year.

Together, we can give children the tools they need to flourish in their education. Thank you for your support!

If you would like to donate backpacks and school supplies in person, volunteer, or explore other ways to support the Back To School Bash and Bookbag Giveaway please call 212-381-0251 or e-mail Harry_Berberian@goodshepherds.org.
