We'd like to change the paradigm on data ownership; rather than have agencies own data how can we give clients ownership of their own information and allow them (not agencies or gov't) to facilitate migration & control of their data? The benefit of this approach is that it doesn't require social service agencies to develop complex data sharing agreements. We'd love to understand what best practices could be and connect with experts in data science to get their perspective on how to design a good foundation. We're sector led, and have 211, and other service partners on board. Our goal is to enable better referrals and reduce the trauma of telling ones story again and again.
a. How can we take a nimble/ incremental approach to building our data backend?
b. How can we make it easy for someone to unlock their data and give selective consent from provider to provider?
This is part of our COVID-19 response to reengineer services around client needs and prevailing technology.

Volunteer with any of the Ekal Canada regional chapters or Head Office and work on raising awareness, fundraising, social media, local community events, website maintenance, support groups, data management, news and events, youth engagement, donor outreach, corporate relations etc.Ekal is a registered Canadian charity engaged in the education of tribal, indigenous children in rural India and Nepal. Ekal runs 80,000 schools that help educate over 2 million underprivileged children in rural, remote parts of India. It is the largest grassroots movement for rural education in the world.
The Ekal movement aims to eradicate illiteracy from tribal areas of India and Nepal through rural development based on the criteria of equality, diversity and inclusion across all sections of society. A contribution of CAD $700 helps run one Ekal school for an entire year, educates 30 children and has a positive impact on 30 rural families.
Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of Canada, a not-for-profit organization, was registered as an Ontario Corporation in 2006 and attained charitable status in 2007. Charity Registration Number (Canada) is 853421162RR0001. Ekal's mission is the holistic development of villages through the empowerment of tribal and rural communities in India with basic education, digital literacy, skill development, health awareness, sustainable agricultural practices and rural entrepreneurship.
We have regional chapters located in Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, London, Windsor, Ottawa etc. Ekal is now active in over 10 countries including the United States of America, Thailand, UAE, New Zealand, Britain, Canada and Australia. At the time of independence, India’s literacy rate was a staggering 11%. Since then, it has made tremendous strides in educating its people. Present-day, the literacy rate stands at 68% for the indigenous and rural Indian population - well below the world average literacy rate of 84%. The tribal inhabitants live in remote areas, far from major cities. Those areas are highly deprived of basic amenities, modern facilities for youth and even basic infrastructure. In this scenario, the Ekal movement emerged as the most pragmatic solution to this national need.
