You're invited to participate in a virtual volunteer event that spreads kindness, care and compassion for children who have complex medical conditions, their caregivers, and their care providers. Eliana's Light (www.elianaslight.org), a U.S.-based non-profit, is taking its 6th Annual Valentine's Day Cards for Kids & Cookies for Caregivers community service program virtual! You can be a part of a collaborative effort to share positive messages to many who need a boost. You may be uplifted when you see the messages that others are sharing.

This is a volunteer opportunity for all ages, schools, organizations, businesses, and associations. Members of families and groups can participate together, while physically distanced, from anywhere in the world. We're launching today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day and MLK Service Day, and will be going through Valentine's Day. For more information and to register, please visit: https://mailchi.mp/6d1a1fedca03/showyoucare.

Eliana’s Light provides emotional, financial, and educational support to families with children experiencing complex medical conditions. It is inspired by Founder Whitney Ortiz's experience witnessing the gaps left behind by our broken support systems when taking care of her daughter, Eliana, for four years with a heart condition and transplant. Eliana’s Light's collaborative “C.A.R.E” model works with medical centers, mental health providers, housing assistance and other specialists to give families the integrated and integrative support services they need. For more information, please visit www.elianaslight.org and email questions to whitney@elianaslight.org.

One of our kids' favorite things is to enjoy a special meal and interact with you and your team afterward - meals can be homemade, prepared on site, delivered or purchased from a restaurant. If a full meal is more than you'd like to tackle, snacks or desserts are also a great option.

Here’s some information to help you:
• Please wear PPE when preparing food to ensure the safety of our kids and staff.
• Meals (if being delivered only) should arrive warm and ready to eat.
• We provide plates, cups, utensils and napkins - no need to worry about that.
• Cancellation Policy: We get it. Life happens. However, if you must cancel, please give us at least a weeks’ notice as we may receive an extra charge from our food provider for late orders.

Food Information:
• Please plan on serving a main course, side dishes, drinks, and dessert (if possible).
• You are welcome to bring juice, herbal tea, flavored waters, and lemonade. Avoid caffeinated drinks (no Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Coke, Dr. Pepper, etc.), and please bring drinks in bottles so they can be easily poured into cups.
• We have standard condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo), but we always appreciate having more. If there are other condiments that are needed for your meal, please bring them.

Purchasing Meals from Restaurants: If you are unable to cook but would still like to provide a meal, here are some restaurants our kids enjoy and work well for large groups.
• Snooze, An A.M. Eatery
• Pepper Asian Bistro
• Maggiano's Little Italy
• 7 Legunas Mexican Grille
• The Ethiopian Restaurant
• 9 Thai Restaurant
• Yahya's Mediterranean Grill & Pastries
• Pizza parties, Build a Sub, Breakfast for Dinner are also great ideas (not to mention interactive). We encourage you to be creative. It gives you an opportunity to interact with the kids, it gives us an opportunity to teach them about a new food, culture or practice.

Arrival and Parking:
• Please ring the buzzer at the front door or call 303-399-4890 (DCH Main #) when you arrive.
• Temporary parking is available in front of the building in the loading zone.

Meal Schedules
Breakfast Schedule and Numbers:
• Weekday Breakfast: food should be dropped off by 7:00 am (+/- 35 kids + 20 staff).
• Weekend Breakfast: food should be dropped off by 8:30 am (+/- 30 kids + 12 staff).
Lunch Schedule and Numbers:
• Weekday: food should be dropped off by 11:00 am (+/- 35 kids + 20 staff).
• Weekend: food should be dropped off by 12:00 pm (+/- 30 kids + 12 staff).
Dinner Schedule and Numbers:
• Plan to serve around 30 kids and 15 staff (numbers change based on eligibility of kids – only kids that are safe and well-behaved can attend).
• Food should be dropped off no later than 4:30 pm to allow for set up.
• If you're preparing the meal on site, we trust your judgement on how long it will take you and your team to prepare. We can give you better arrival guidelines (and schedule a tour of the kitchen and cafeteria) when you book your date.

Dietary Concerns:
• We are a nut free facility.
• We occasionally have clients that are vegetarian, gluten/dairy free, and/or on a low carb diet. If unable to accommodate special meals, please let us know in advance so we may plan alternative meals for those kids.
• Since allergies change as new kids arrive and others depart, we'll inform you of current allergies when you book a date.
• We also have a few kids with braces, so no super sticky or crunchy foods, please.

Donation Information: If you provide us with receipts for the food you purchased, we will give you a donation receipt. Please make sure to let us know where to send it.

Organize, sort, and sometimes launder new or gently used clothing donated to Homes of Hope for the Hope Room.
When a child is placed in foster care they usually only have the clothes they are wearing. The families that take them in do not have the clothing and or baby furniture needed for these children. They call us with sizes and needs and we provide clothing, beds, car seats, etc. for the children. We need help keeping the Hope Room stocked and sorted with items for these emergency needs and for families to visit the Hope Room up to three times a year per child.

It's Your Birthday, Inc. is kicking off 2021 with a fun virtual volunteer opportunity. Similar to our past decorating events – hats and treat bags, we would like to decorate 60 birthday boxes. Since March of 2020, we have paused hosting birthday parties in shelters and instead provided the child with a fun Birthday-in-a-Box (or in some cases, a Bag). Well, we are running low on nicely decorated boxes. We anticipate celebrating 250-300 birthdays this year. The 60 boxes will help us through the first few months 😊

Please consider volunteering with us on January 18th in observance of Dr. MLK Day of Service and decorate boxes with us! No RSVP needed – just dial in at one of the times most convenient for you. This is a great activity for a group to enjoy!
