The mission of the Gary Turbak Memorial Back to School Clothing Project is to provide at risk and low-income children aged 4-12 with a NEW set of clothes and shoes to start the school year. Started in 1986, the event has been held every August for the last 38 years in the Fellowship Hall at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The underlying philosophy of the project is that kids will do better in school if they feel good about themselves, and their self-image will be higher if they are not ashamed of their clothes. We request donations from church members and apply for grants from local businesses and foundations. Several other churches also participate through donations and by collecting NEW socks and underwear for the “store”.We partner with local social service agencies who refer low-income families with at-risk children. The families and children are selected without regard to race, religion, or sexual orientation. They are invited to attend a "store" that is set up in our Fellowship Hall. The children shop in the “store” and select their own NEW set of clothing to start the school year. Any leftover clothing is donated to the Missoula Public Schools for their Family Resource Centers. In 2020 approximately 330 received NEW clothing and shoes and in 2021 approximately 420 children were served. In 2022 and 2023 approximately 475 children were served. As can be seen by the numbers, there is a growing need for this project in our community. Because of the increasing need, the “store” was expanded to two days in 2023. The dates for the 2024 project are August 12 and 13.
100% of the funds raised is spent on the NEW clothing. All administrative costs and venue costs are donated.

Saayam org is based on two very simple mottos – "Manava Sevaye Madhava Seva" (Service to mankind is Service to God) and "Sarve jana sukhino bhavantu" (May all live happily). When we are able to request for a car on Uber/Lyft app and order food on a Doordash app, why can't we request for help on an application? This is the main driver for this Saayam project.
Saayam means "help" in Telugu language. Equivalent words in other languages are - Sahaay in Sanskrit & Hindi, Banazhu in Mandarin and Ayuda in Spanish. Our goal is to help the humanity.
We are developing our web app in React, mobile app in React Native, backend using AWS services in Java, Python etc. We use Aurora with Postgres flavor.

Since 1979, The Boston House: Hope and Healing for Children with Cancer has served as a no-cost home away from home for children with cancer who are receiving treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children's Hospital. The House Dinner Program enables volunteer groups to come in to The Boston House and prepare meals for the families staying with us. Volunteers plan their meal, purchase groceries and utilize The House's kitchen to prepare and serve meals to the children and families we serve. We typically can host up to 6 volunteers for indoor cooking or 8-10 if we're barbecuing in our outdoor kitchen.
These dinners have been so appreciated by our families, who usually spend most of their day with their children at our partner hospitals. Coming back here to a warm, home-cooked meal can not only provide nutrition, but also a sense of normalcy, of community, and a reassurance that they are not alone in their battle against childhood cancer.

Help Make a Welcome Home Banner for Children with Cancer“Calling All Volunteers!” Join our ongoing Banner Project which has been completely re-engineered for 2024.
Volunteers support the project by coloring pages using our new 2024 digital coloring process which helps us to create a one-of-a-kind "Welcome Home Banner" for a child who has Cancer. You'll be helping us brighten their room when they get home from the hospital!
SIDE NOTE: If you volunteered in the past with this project, you know that historically Volunteer Kits were shipped to the team captain at your store. The captains then coordinated getting the materials dispersed and the projects completed with the individual team members.
Going forward, we are thrilled to invite you to volunteer using our new Online Digital Volunteer Platform.
Please sign-up for the event here as you normally do. Next, navigate to our online digital platform which has detailed and complete step-by-step instructions on the new process.

Some of our Volunteer Feedback:
Sarah D: I've been a part of the BraveHearts Banner project for a few years, but the new digital coloring process has been a game-changer. It's so easy and convenient to participate from home. Knowing that my artwork is part of a banner welcoming a brave little warrior home makes every stroke of color feel like a small act of love and support.
Mike M: As a father, I can only imagine the challenges these families face. Joining the Welcome Home Banner project has given me a way to contribute positively to their journey. The online platform is user-friendly, and it feels great to be part of a community that's spreading joy and hope to these incredible kids.
Emma W: I used to help with the banner project at my local store, but the new digital platform has made it so much more accessible. I can now contribute from anywhere, anytime. It's a beautiful feeling to know that my artwork is part of a bigger picture, bringing smiles to children returning home from their treatments.
The Johnson Family: Our whole family gets involved in coloring pages for the Welcome Home Banner. It's become a meaningful activity for us, especially for our kids, who learn about compassion and giving back. Seeing the completed banner and knowing we played a part in it is incredibly rewarding.
Linda P: I've been volunteering with BraveHearts for Kids for a while through my company's corp volunteer program, and the Banner project is by far my favorite. The transition to the digital platform has made it so much easier to participate. Each banner is a tapestry of love and support, and I'm honored to contribute to such a meaningful cause.
Family Testimonials:
Tyler's Father: "Every hand-drawn picture and message spoke directly to my Tyler's heart, reminding him of the world outside waiting for him. It's amazing how something so simple as a banner can bring so much happiness and serve as a daily reminder of the strength and courage he possesses."
Sophie's Grandfather: "When Sophie saw her personalized banner, her eyes sparkled with a mixture of surprise and delight. It was a moment of pure joy, not just for her but for all of us. The banner, adorned with messages of love and colorful drawings, became a symbol of her bravery and the overwhelming support from our community. It hangs proudly over her closet and is a constant reminder to her that her life and journey matter."
Ally's Older Sister: "I spent hours helping to color Ally's banner, focusing on every detail. Seeing her reaction, made every minute worth it. She now knows she's not alone in this fight.
