Spooks Spokes Sneakers is for runners, walkers, cyclists and bikers of all levels. Bicycle riders choose between the 17 mile Halloween Ride or the 9 mile Halloweenie Ride, walkers & runners participate in a 3.5-mile powder fun run/walk. All the funds raised will support Black Hawk County Bigs, Littles and families.

Opportunity Details

The Salvation Army will be partnering with Milgard Windows and Doors again this year to provide new clothes for approximately 25+ children for the upcoming school year. School-aged children from The Salvation Army’s Transitional Living Center will be taken to Kohl’s where they will shop for back to school clothing and supplies with the help of volunteers. Volunteers are also needed to help keep an eye on the children when they are not shopping.

Lunch Break's 9th annual Fall Gala will be held at Battleground Country Club in Manalapan. This year, we are celebrating 35 years of serving the community. Volunteers are needed for guest registration, coat check and to sell raffle tickets from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Volunteers are required to wear a white top, black pants and closed toe shoes.

Calhoun Academy of the Arts will be hosting a Fall Festival to raise funds for the school, provide school and family connection, and encourage parental involvement. We will have games, food, and fun for the Calhoun community to enjoy. The funds will be used to provide students at Calhoun Academy of the Arts with a free school shirt for every student, field trips to the Brooks Center at Clemson University, field day, student awards, school copier maintenance, school dances, and teacher appreciation events. Our school is a Title I public elementary and is always in need of support, both financial and otherwise.

Opportunity Details

Court Appointed Special Advocates, CASA, is a local non profit which uses community volunteers to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children in the family court system. CASA volunteers visit with the child monthly, meets with all people involved in that child's life (biological parents, foster parents, teachers, doctors, therapists) and collect records about the family and child. With all of this information, CASA volunteers make recommendations to the court in regards to the child's best interest. CASA volunteers stay involved with a child until they achieve permanenecy which is on average 1.5 years. Current CASA volunteers work on average 5-10 hours a month on their case, which mainly involves visiting with the child. CASA volunteers are often one of the only constant people involved in a child's life as they move from foster home to foster home.

To become a volunteer, you have to be at least 21, not a foster parent, consent to background checks and attend a one off 30 hour training. The pre-service training is held 4 times a year!
