On May 17, Midtown Community Services in St. Louis will host a free Family Fun & Health Fair to promote physical activity, health awareness, and safety for our community members, from newborns to their great-grandparents.

The day includes free health screenings, games and activities, mental health and nutrition resources, and raffles and giveaways. With the majority of individuals we serve from historically marginalized communities unable to access high-quality healthcare because of financial and transportation constraints, the Fair is key to connecting them to accessible resources to help them live their healthiest lives possible. We are expecting 200 people at the event, including 125 children.

Make the fleece-tied blankets as a team. This can be done remotely, or in the same room, or a hybrid. All you need are sharp scissors for each person, and yards of fleece.

Binky Patrol delivers blankets to victims of violent crimes, those living in shelters, pregnancy clinics, transitional housing, and other kids who need a reminder they matter and are not invisible. These soft blankets are a great way to do this!

You can do this from ANY location or multiple locations simultaneously. SUPER EASY.
We always need binkies, unfortunately. There is no minimum for this project to be a success. We have no quotas. One binky is better than no binkies, is what we say. If it's soft, washable, and from the heart - it's perfect, but please don't cut on the folds! ;}

The link below has more info about the fleece blankets.

Thank you for considering this project!

If you decide to do it, here are the steps:

1. Pick the date, time, and attendees.
2. Have founder Susan Finch do a kick-off video to build excitement for you to share with them.
3. Purchase scissors and fleece (we use JoAnn coupons). Typically, each blanket with thick fleece is 1.5 yards by whatever width. If you buy the inexpensive kits with double fabric, one kit per blanket is perfect.
4. Prep the fabric by cutting off the two side edges and selvage.
5. Fold the blanket into fourths with one corner with all open ends.
6. Cut out a 5x5 square through all four layers (or 8 if you are using the kits)
7. While still folded, cut fringe strips on TWO sides - OPEN sides, not the folded sides. You will cut them 5" deep. That square is your guide.
8. Open it up.
9. Now, everyone can help tie the fringe. We tie it like a balloon around one finger, but not too high up or it will get puckery. If you have the kits you can tie the two pieces the same way at the same time - they are thin enough this will work.
10. Hold it up and CHEER! You did it!

Now, here's the most important part. You can deliver to a local Binky Patrol chapter, or you can, as a group find a local area shelter or clinic to deliver your binkies to! This helps you build community even if we don't have a chapter near you.

We have labels you can hand-sew or machine-sew in the corners to make them official! We can mail those to you ahead of time. It's a great thing for people to do that is not tying or cutting!

What do you think? It typically takes one person 45 minutes to make a blanket of this type - start to finish - including labels. How many can your team make? You could make it a challenge between teams. Everyone wins because it's for the kids!

Join a meaningful initiative to support Claire and her two sons, who are facing immense challenges following the loss of Claire's husband to Alzheimer's. The family, including her sons on the autism spectrum, struggles to maintain their home due to limited income and considerable caregiving demands. Their yard, overshadowed by a precarious maple tree and featuring a deteriorating deck, urgently needs attention.

We are seeking compassionate volunteers with skills in landscaping, carpentry, and general maintenance to help make their home safe and welcoming. This project offers a unique opportunity for corporate teams to give back through tangible actions that directly impact a deserving family. Transforming their neglected outdoor space into a safe and beautiful environment will not only improve their quality of life but also provide them with a serene place to heal and grow.

Step forward with your team and demonstrate the power of community and corporate social responsibility. Engage in this project to bring safety, joy, and peace to Claire and her sons. Together, we can rebuild their yard into a sanctuary of hope and togetherness. This is more than just volunteering—it's a chance to make a lasting difference and show what we can achieve when we unite for a noble cause. Join us and contribute to a project that rebuilds not just a yard but a family's future.

We run corporate volunteer groups in our Tallaght hub on Tuesdays between 10 am and 2 pm.

Our main activities are sorting and packing up clothes, nappies, essentials and gift packs; as well as organising buggies and cots for the families we deliver to that week. We help up to 20 families each week and need enthusiastic volunteers to help us prepare mama and baby items.

If you would like to make a real difference for families in need and have some fun in the process (coffee, tea and biscuits are provided), please get in touch with us!

Where possible, we recommend a suggested donation of €25 per participant who comes to our hub, to cover our costs and support our mission. This can be covered by donations of baby items brought with you on the day or by a cash or online donation.
For the list of items needed, or to donate online, please see https://communityconnect.ie/corpvol/
