We count on you for 5 days a week by sleeping & helping in the orphanage and this for 3 months. There are no costs to pay. Use your leadership skills to help give kids in need the chance to read. Page Ahead board members are passionate about children's literacy. We are a governance board, which means we are responsible for setting a vision for Page Ahead and ensuring that our mission is fulfilled. We scan the horizon for new opportunities and act as ambassadors for Page Ahead in the community. Each Page Ahead board member serves on one of the following committees: Board Development, Audit and Finance, Donor Engagement, or Governance. Committees can consist of board as well as community members and there may be duties outside of regular meetings. Board meetings are the second Tuesday of each month from 4 - 5:30P and we alternate between in-person (downtown Seattle) and online meetings. The average monthly commitment is 4-6 hours.

We believe good governance is achieved when:
1. Page Ahead has sufficient resources to place new books in the hands of children in need, provide professional development for preschool teachers, conduct parent trainings and Story Times, and help our partners with their literacy programs. All board members make personal financial contributions to Page Ahead, and use our circle of influence to help with fundraising.
2. Page Ahead is a good steward of all contributions. We closely monitor the agency’s financial condition, and hire a firm to do an independent audit of Page Ahead’s financial statements annually.
3. There is strong leadership from the board. We actively recruit new members and look for people who have a passion for children and literacy that is matched by their determination and accountability to the agency and its members. We serve a population that is diverse ethnically, culturally and geographically and actively search for board members that represent the community.
4. There is strong linkage between the needs of the community and the program actions of our agency. We attend reading events and book fairs and communicate with partners, children and parents. The board actively works to establish and recognize their needs and acts as the link between the community and Page Ahead.

Board Term: 3 years, followed by voluntary annual renewals up to a total of six years.

This event is to celebrate the artwork the youth participants created through our Youth Art Engagement Project. This event is for them to show their family, friends, and community what they have learned through our program about preventing child/youth sexual exploitation and trafficking.

Opportunity Details

Kidstart is a one-to-one mentoring program for children and youth across the Lower Mainland who are experiencing significant challenges at home, at school, with their peers, and in the community. By pairing them with a volunteer mentor, our goal is to help them build the confidence and resilience they need to make positive choices and to share in many of the same experiences as other young people.

Volunteer mentors are critical to the success of the program but our biggest challenge is finding enough mentors to meet the needs of our community. We currently have 247 children and youth waiting for a mentor.

We are looking for a group of volunteers for 2-3 hours to help us put up posters around the community to aid in our volunteer recruitment efforts. We are able to accommodate your group's schedule if you would like to take part in this opportunity outside of regular business hours.

Please note: having access to a vehicle would be ideal as we would like to recruit volunteers in North Vancouver, UBC, Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond, Surrey and Vancouver.

Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs - Vernon is seeking volunteers for TELUS Days of Giving. We require 4-6 volunteers to assist with baking. We are hoping to bake muffins, loaves, cookies, etc. to freeze so we have access to these homemade goods for the children after school.

Our goal is to always keep our young people who attend our programs fed with healthy, nutritious snacks and meal,

Are you good at entertaining children? Are you skilled in making friends with children.....especially children with special needs? Do you have a special skill that will bring a smile in a child's face?

We are looking for volunteers to help out in our Silent Voice' booth to entertain Deaf children and their siblings. We will be making crafts, buttons, and other various activities like face painting to bring fun in to their day and inspire them.

If you have supervising skills to manage the activities in our busy booth, we need you too.

If you know how to sign (American Sign Language) even a little bit, that would be awesome. If you don't sign, no worries, our student interpreters will make the event and the communication accessible for you. You will get to learn more about the Deaf community and build an appreciation for their skills and aspirations.

Mothercraft Ottawa is celebrating the 10th annual Touch a Truck Fundraising event. The event will take place on June 11, 2017 at the Lincoln Fields Shopping Centre, 2525 Carling Ave. Ottawa, ON.

We are seeking volunteers to assist with set up/tear down, admissions booth, crowd control, face painting, concessions, crafts, assisting performers and many more tasks for this family fun day!

All the proceeds of the event go towards Mothercraft Ottawa's Birth and Parent Companion Program, serving at risk families by providing free prenatal, labour/delivery, postpartum and parenting support.

We are actively seeking KidStart volunteer mentors in the New Westminster and Surrey area to be assigned to a child, age 6-12.

Mentoring changes a young person’s life because it brings out their gifts. Once they find their gifts, they discover how to succeed. A mentor helps keep them on the path to following their dreams. Because of this, early intervention has been recognized as a highly effective way of addressing the living circumstances that can lead kids into difficult situations. Mentoring guides young people out of these situations.

Being a volunteer mentor with KidStart doesn’t require special skills, just common sense and a positive attitude. It means spending a couple hours each week of your time with a young person. You will be helping a child/youth to grow, thrive and connect with the community they call home.
