The volunteer will be assigned the duties of serving as a mentor to students and adult learners enrolled in the STEM-CS Institute. This program is on Saturday's only and requires one-on-one and group activities. The volunteers and mentors will lead students in STEM-CS and Technology activities and projects. Students and Adult Learners enrolled in Computer Science (CS) and Technology courses may gain support from DLSA's volunteers and mentors in completing assignments. During presentations sessions, STEM Educators and Professionals may present college and career information.

Court Appointed Special Advocates are trained volunteers who work on behalf of children who have been abused and/or neglected.

When an abuse and neglect petition is filed in court (i.e., a Care & Protection), Judges from the Lawrence, Newburyport and Salem District Courts may appoint a CASA Advocate to serve as the Guardian ad Litem to advocate for the child’s best interests. A large part of an Advocate’s duties are to gather information, assimilate perspectives from all involved parties, and provide the judge with timely information that enables well-informed decisions to protect the child.

Family Services’ CASA Advocates also works outside of court to ensure that services (educational, medical, psychological, social) are provided, that foster care placements are appropriate, and, most importantly, that the child is able to thrive.

Individuals interested in volunteering for CASA will be screened, interviewed and required to attend a 40 hour training. CASA volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one year, or until the case(s) they are assigned to comes to a close.

On Thursday, November 5, 2015 Grant A Gift Autism Foundation will hold its 6th Annual Fashion for Autism Gala at the Aria Hotel and Crystals. Over the past years, Fashion for Autism has grown into a wonderful event filled with great FUNDRAISING, FASHION and lots of FUN.

Proceeds from this event will help supply center diagnostic services, treatment and other support services which include social skills groups, teen transition work programs, speech therapy, sibling support workshops and local operations in Southern Nevada to effectively serve our families living with autism spectrum disorder. It will also help to provide sponsorships to children who are in need of services, and change a life forever!

Location: ARIA Convention Center
Date: Thursday, November 5th, 2015
Volunteer shifts: 3:30pm - 9:30pm

Volunteer areas to include, but are not limited to:

Guest Greeters, Registration Check-in/out, Silent Auction Set-Up & Support, Ballroom Ushers, etc.

There will also be a short, required pre-gala meeting that will take place on Monday, November 2nd, with two possible times in order to accommodate different schedules. This will just be a quick overview of the who,what,when,where, and why aspects of the event itself.
