Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA's) are appointed by the judges in each county to advocate for the best interests of a child or children. CASA’s meet with the child or children on a regular basis, consult with professionals, including the foster care
worker, attorneys, and schools, as well as gather information from family members and foster placements. CASA's then make recommendations to the judge in the form of a court report based on their observations and information gathered. CASA's spend an average of 10-12 hours per month on their case work. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age. Complete an application, interview, and background screening. Commit to at least one year of service, or the conclusion of the case. Complete the 30-hour Pre-Service Training requirement which includes six hours per week of online and in-class work across five weeks. In addition to 30 hours of online and in-class work, attend court nights in Johnson and Wyandotte Counties and observe a court hearing.

For more information on how to become a CASA Advocate, contact Volunteer Manager, Courtney, at cmead@casajwc.com OR visit our inquiry page today https://www.casajwc.org/get-involved.
