Saturday, May 16 – Grand Opening of Bristol Township Community Park from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm!! Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Grand Opening Event. Along with our ribbon cutting ceremony, this entirely FREE event (with the exception of vendor items and food for purchase) will feature the start-up of our new spray park, opening of our new playground, live music in our new amphitheater, bounce houses, face painting, balloon art, roaming characters (princesses, super heroes, etc.), and more activities than any event we've ever hosted! This new intergenerational park space will offer events and activities across generations, such as special events, concerts, movies, walking trails and outdoor sports. People who take part in recreational activities, especially outdoors, can greatly improve physical health, schedule fewer office visits, maintain lower body fat percentages, and have lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Bristol Township Senior Center is excited to partner with Bristol Township Department of Parks and Recreation in this grand opening event. In addition to launching new center walking programs, as well as promoting our community gardens and environmental projects. We will be also providing food and beverages for sale from the new concession building. This is especially important to us, as we lost all our events and rentals income this past year due to all the construction in the Bristol Township municipal complex, where we are located. In addition to growing our programs and introducing new programs, we are excited to have the opportunity to provide concessions for Township events this year. This will help us to start recovering from some of our past year losses. We hope you will join us by volunteering for our Grand Opening celebration!!!

This is a fundraiser for the West Valley Mavericks Foundation. Our foundation raises money for the West Valley of Phoenix, Arizona. The West Valley Mavericks Foundation's mission is to assist children and families, help people in need, and improve the quality of life in West Valley communities.

Opportunity Details

Volunteers are needed to help with setting up tables, serving snacks and beverages, and cleaning up (taking down tables and resetting the room) after the swim party.

The Hand-in-Hand Program partners more than 250 volunteer high school participants with approximately 150 children and young adults with intellectual disABILITIES as “buddies” for the All*Star season. More than just a fundraiser or special event, this community program provides opportunities for youth leadership and development, community education and awareness regarding intellectual disABILITIES, athletic competition, inclusion activities of the Hand-in-Hand Program, and community/family participation. One of these activities is the Hand-in-Hand Swim Party on April 26, 2020 at the Hockessin Athletic Club in Hockessin, DE. Buddies can start in the Hand-in-Hand Program at the age of 4 and can return each year until they are 18. Many buddy families report that their high school participants continue to stay in contact for years after the conclusion of the program. Some have even invited their former buddies to their graduations, birthdays, proms, weddings, and other life events. Some high school participants have reported that they changed their career path to special education, or other similar helping professions, as a result of their experiences in our program.

As part of our Multi-Cultural week at the Club, our students are teaming up with staff members to create individual table displays of countries for our student led International Festival. The tables will include hand outs about the country, interactive artifacts, display boards, and food or drink samples. We need volunteers to assist in table set up for the event, assisting staff and students as needed, and event break down.

Inspiring confidence, physical fitness, and acceptance by providing a new pair of back-to-school shoes to elementary children. We serve over 40 elementary schools in Kent County who have 75% of their student population in their schools qualifying for free/reduced lunch. They are able to come in, try on and keep a free, brand new pair of shoes to start the new school year and we need your help to do so!

The Empower Me Foster Walk takes place during Foster Care Awareness Month (May) and is a show of support and unity for the lives touched by foster care. Together we can raise awareness and let the thousands of children in foster care know they are not alone.

The number of children in Wisconsin's foster care system reached a staggering total of 8,000 in 2019. Foster care and the youth it serves touches all groups of at-risk youth in our community. Youth who were in foster care are less likely to complete high school, attend college, and find employment. They are also more likely to become homeless, become victims of sex trafficking, and experience PTSD than their peer counterparts.

More than 600 children are trafficked for sex in our own backyard. This inconceivable crime is stealing life, hope and opportunity from our kids. But with your support and the hard work of our coalition partners, we are preventing child sex trafficking, recovering and connecting vulnerable youth to services, and restoring positive and productive lives.
Our annual StolenYouth luncheon has fast become one of Seattle’s most successful fundraisers, having generated over $7 million to date in the fight against the trafficking and sexual exploitation of our children and youth. We hope you will join us this year.
