Edible Extravaganza is the signature fundraiser for Center for Human Services (CHS). This event is in its 33rd year and has a gross revenue of over $150,000. Thousands of people attend this event each year and we are able to raise money to support program deficits, but we also raise friends and introduce them to our services. It takes nearly 300 volunteers to pull this event off and make it something people want to continue to pay to attend. 75% of our volunteers are employees who know how important this event is in raising awareness as well as funds. The other 25% comes from our community partnerships and dedicated community members. This event would not be successful without our volunteers.Available Shifts

The Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) program is a voluntary program that prepares families on Section 8 to gain employment, increase income and reduce reliance on government programs. The program’s long term goal is to move families from poverty to a financially stable life. FSS participants commit to working with us for 5 years and pursuing specific educational, career, and financial goals. The families we serve are low-income and live in Alameda County. We have approximately 170 families in our program at this time. I’ve attached our brochure and event flyer. Our Health and Resource Fair is an annual event that brings our participant families together for a day of fun activities and information on available resources in the community. This is a free event that we offer to the families in our program. While adults gather information from over 20 vendor tables, the kids paint, draw or do crafts. They also create posters on the theme of “What Home Means to Me.” Backpacks & school supplies are given to children who participate in our poster contest. This year we will also have a Lego station as well. The Hayward Fire Department sends a fire truck and firefighters teach fire safety tips to children. The ice cream truck provides treats for all.
