The 4th Annual Crosswinds Planking Challenge is planned for June 6, 2018, at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana at 6:00 pm (registration beginning at 5:30 pm). This outdoor event challenges you to get down and lift others up! Money raised from this unique, healthy, fundraiser benefit the Crosswinds Scholarship Fund, a fund available for individuals and families in need of mental health support and counseling. Additionally, funds contributed provide limited financial assistance to eligible employees who are experiencing economic hardship due to emergency situations through the Lifeline Loves Crosswinds Cares Fund.

Crosswinds is seeking five (5) or more volunteers to support the event logistics, including setup, greeting, goody bag distribution, and participant direction. We are doing setup beginning at 3 pm and, if you are able provide volunteers, we would so appreciate your help. We anticipate the event concluding around 7:30 pm, and then will just have to pack up a few items. Everyone who volunteers will receive an event t-shirt. There is more information about the event online at www.crosswinds.org/planking.

Indian Oaks Academy (IOA), a member of the Nexus family of treatment programs, provides residential treatment for boys and girls ages 12 to 21. Unfortunately, many of our youth come to us with a history of trauma, personal struggle and lack of positive role models. Our vocational program gives these young people a chance to develop new skills, and equips them for the future through classes and community work opportunities. Tool Bash raises money to provide valuable vocational offerings both on and off our campus. Additionally, Tool Bash helps our kids give back to the community.

Tool Bash is a family fun event that raises money to provide valuable vocational offerings both on and off our campus. Additionally, Tool Bash helps our kids give back to the community by providing resources for volunteer opportunities for our youth. In 2017, our youth logged over 4,500 volunteer hours with communities and agencies throughout the greater Kankakee County area. Tool Bash 2018 will fill the IOA gym located at 225 Diversatech Drive in Manteno IL, with over 500 people who dig our Kid Zone, entertainment, food and good fun from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prize drawings for our raffles begin at noon.

The Butler County Early Care & Education Council (a community collaboration committed to school readiness, coordinated by Lifesteps) is requesting community involvement in local activities to celebrate the National Week of the Young Child this April. This annual celebration provides a special time to renew our community’s commitment to ensuring that every child has quality early experiences to help them grow up healthy, safe, and ready for school.
This year, we are again planning a community-wide event which will provide fun, educational activities and resources to support families of children ages birth through eight. With 90% of brain development occurring before age five, children’s experiences during these critical years provide the foundation for all future learning.
This year’s event theme, “Be the Star You Are!” will promote school readiness with a focus on self-esteem, accepting and celebrating differences, and positive behaviors. (Social-emotional skills and Character Education), following the theme of the book “My Cousin Momo”, by Zacharia O’Hora. Each family attending will receive a free copy of the book!

Your help is needed to make this year’s celebration a success!

Events will be held:

 Tuesday, April 17th from 10 am – 2 pm and 6 – 8 pm, North Main Street Church of God, Butler
 April 12th – 20th, Author visits and activities are being planned by several Butler County libraries

YOU can help in ANY of the following ways:

 Become an event Sponsor
 Volunteer to help where needed
 Donate food to feed volunteers and/or provide snacks for families
 Donate door prizes for the children and families
 Provide additional resources/presentations on Social/Emotional Development or School Readiness
 Participate as a VENDOR. (please read below)
Organizations wishing to participate as VENDORS on April 17th must complete the attached form AND provide/participate in an activity for children that promotes learning (Social Skills/Character Education)
For additional information about the book and sample activities, please visit www.paonebook.org.

To learn more about how YOU can get involved, contact Julie Thumma at Lifesteps (724) 283-1010 x310.

We look forward to partnering with you!

Camp Breathe Easy is a free one-day camp that serves asthmatic children, ages six to thirteen, and their parents or guardians. The goal of Camp Breathe Easy is to teach children and their parents how to cope with asthma and prevent asthma attacks, in turn reducing school absenteeism, the number of emergency room visits taken each year, and the number of days parents miss from work due to their child’s illness. We would like to create activity kits so that the participants can make model lungs out of cups and balloons, to help them understand their asthma.
