Help the Hunger Task Force Farm get ready for a new season!

Each year, The Farm grows half a million pounds of fresh produce and delivers it to local pantries, meal sites and senior centers creating access for those facing hunger.

The Farm’s Nutrition Education program teaches healthy-eating habits to 250+ low-income students each week on The Farm. Students learn to garden and cook using fresh produce right from the school garden.

In addition, The Farm is home to 100+ acres of natural areas, which includes a 43-acre endangered Oak Savanna, wetlands, and prairie.

In the spring, there is much to do! Help us:

• Natural areas restoration: wood chipping trails, clearing invasive brush and plants
• Cleaning & organizing the Nutrition Education kitchen
• Cleaning, raking and wood chipping the School Garden
• Weeding spinach/shaping garden beds in the Hoop Houses (dependent on spinach harvest timing)

At Vision Forward, we provide comprehensive services to all individuals experiencing vision loss, helping them achieve important developmental milestones as well as educational, personal and professional goals.

Our signature event, Feast for the Senses, raises vital funds for these programs and services and in 2019, we are celebrating our 100th year of service to the community! Over 250 guests will be joining us on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at The Pavilion at Discovery World to help us celebrate our accomplishments, honor our history and prepare us for the next 100 years.

Volunteers assist the event in a variety of ways! We are reaching out to Kohl's to recruit a great group of individuals to run our "Spirits Pull" - a fun "fan favorite" activity that raises over $2,000 in support of our mission. Other event opportunities are available.

Kohl's volunteers will help make diaper cakes, which will be used as centerpieces and game prizes at the 2019 Cabell County Community Baby Shower, which is scheduled for April 24th this year. Due to health complications, our volunteers who normally construct diaper cakes for the baby shower will be unavailable this spring. All of the materials and instructions will be supplied by the baby shower coordinator.
The Cabell County Community Baby shower is one of the largest baby showers in the state of WV. This year will be our 5th annual event. We serve 100 expectant mothers and their guests. Priority reservations are given to 1st time mothers who reside in Cabell County. There are no income restrictions, as we feel that every new mother, regardless of income, can benefit from the educational aspects of the baby shower, the supplies and the opportunity to connect with local resources. At the event, parents will get a chance to meet exhibitors from a wide variety of community agencies and organizations. While the parents enjoy a light lunch, presentations are given by local doctors and nurses about topics including breastfeeding, labor and delivery, baby safety and fatherhood. Each mother is given a laundry basket brimming with baby supplies. We also play baby shower games and have door prize drawings for some fantastic prizes, such as pack and plays, car seats, strollers, swings, etc.
We at the Cabell County Community Baby Shower would greatly appreciate the opportunity to work with Kohl's volunteers. Thank you so much for your consideration!

Project Description: Volunteers will be counting, sorting, organizing, and preparing donations of baby clothing, toys, and books for the families in Room to Grow's program. At each visit, Room to Grow families co-select developmentally appropriate items to take home for their child, from seasonal clothing, to toys designed to develop motor skills, to books promoting early literacy. Volunteers are essential to maintaining a clean, organized and welcoming space for our families, and ensuring that only the highest quality of items are available.

About Us: Room to Grow is a nonprofit organization that provides families with structured coaching, material goods, and community connections to support parents as they activate natural strengths, gain confidence and knowledge, and ensure their babies have the social, emotional and language skills they need to thrive from the start.
