Dorcas Destiny International makes several trips per year to Kenya East Africa in support of the several schools there that we support. People here in the USA donate items such as shoes, small school supplies, infant and child clothing, personal and basic hygiene items, first aid supplies and such that we take with us on the trips. Donors have also given us a number of suitcases within which the items are sorted, packed, weighed, and inventoried for team members to take with them.

Volunteer groups are able to assist in the sorting, packing, weighing, and inventorying process so that when we travel, it is easy to provide a team member with a full suitcase.

A group or team can make arrangements to spend a couple of hours helping with the process either one time or over a couple of days. We are very flexible!!

Help Us Create a Welcome Home Banner for Children with Cancer.

Calling All Volunteers who desire to make a real difference in the lives of children battling cancer from anywhere at any time!

What's New: Join our Banner Project, now with virtual components, allowing you to contribute no matter where you are.

How It Works:
• Step 1: Sign up for the event here as you normally do.
• Step 2: Access our new digital coloring platform by either:
○ Copying and pasting this URL into your browser:
https://forms.braveheartsforkids.org/benevity-public-digital-volunteer-platform-2024
○ Or clicking the website link at the bottom of this page.
• Step 3: Follow the step-by-step instructions to color and submit your pages digitally.

Impact: Once you submit your artwork, it will be printed and merged with contributions from others to create a unique "Welcome Home Banner" for a child returning from cancer treatment. Your artistic contribution will help brighten a child’s room and lift their spirits as they transition from hospital to home.

Note for Returning Volunteers: We've transitioned from physical coloring kits to this digital process as this new method enhances the experience and broadens participation options.

Thank You: Your commitment to the BraveHearts Banner project brings hope and joy to children battling cancer and their families. Thank you for your dedication and creativity!

Some of our Volunteer Feedback:

Sarah D: I've been a part of the BraveHearts Banner project for a few years, but the new digital coloring process has been a game-changer. It's so easy and convenient to participate from home. Knowing that my artwork is part of a banner welcoming a brave little warrior home makes every stroke of color feel like a small act of love and support.

Mike M: As a father, I can only imagine the challenges these families face. Joining the Welcome Home Banner project has given me a way to contribute positively to their journey. The online platform is user-friendly, and it feels great to be part of a community that's spreading joy and hope to these incredible kids.

Emma W: I used to help with the banner project at my local store, but the new digital platform has made it so much more accessible. I can now contribute from anywhere, anytime. It's a beautiful feeling to know that my artwork is part of a bigger picture, bringing smiles to children returning home from their treatments.

The Johnson Family: Our whole family gets involved in coloring pages for the Welcome Home Banner. It's become a meaningful activity for us, especially for our kids, who learn about compassion and giving back. Seeing the completed banner and knowing we played a part in it is incredibly rewarding.

Linda P: I've been volunteering with BraveHearts for Kids for a while through my company's corp volunteer program, and the Banner project is by far my favorite. The transition to the digital platform has made it so much easier to participate. Each banner is a tapestry of love and support, and I'm honored to contribute to such a meaningful cause.

Family Testimonials:

Tyler's Father: "Every hand-drawn picture and message spoke directly to my Tyler's heart, reminding him of the world outside waiting for him. It's amazing how something so simple as a banner can bring so much happiness and serve as a daily reminder of the strength and courage he possesses."

Sophie's Grandfather: "When Sophie saw her personalized banner, her eyes sparkled with a mixture of surprise and delight. It was a moment of pure joy, not just for her but for all of us. The banner, adorned with messages of love and colorful drawings, became a symbol of her bravery and the overwhelming support from our community. It hangs proudly over her closet and is a constant reminder to her that her life and journey matter."

Ally's Older Sister: "I spent hours helping to color Ally's banner, focusing on every detail. Seeing her reaction, made every minute worth it. She now knows she's not alone in this fight.

Ben's Uncle: "The sound of Ben's laughter when he first saw the banner was the best sound I've heard in a long time. To know it was the kindness of strangers that made this possible humbles us all. The banner now adorns his room, a powerful message of love and strength that I believe encourages Ben daily.

Ella's Mother: "Ella's reaction to the banner was one of pure joy. She was overjoyed with the bright colors and personal touches. It's become a cherished part of her space, bringing comfort and smiles even on tough days."

Mason's Grandmother: "The banner for Mason brought a sense of celebration back into our home. It's become a beautiful reminder of the support we have, a symbol of hope that lifts our spirits every day."

CASA Volunteers advocate for children in foster care, developing a one-on-one relationship with them through outings, quality time, and most importantly, listening.
This two year commitment enables our advocates to interact with all professionals involved in the child’s case and make recommendations directly to the court, ensuring the child’s best interests are heard. Unlike social workers, therapists, and attorneys who juggle large caseloads, CASAs work with one child at a time and can quickly become a critically important person in the child’s life. CASAs are individuals from all walks of life who speak up for a child’s best interests in court. You are not a foster parent or caretaker; you are a powerful voice making a real difference at a critical turning point in the child’s life.

To become a CASA means you are:

* Willing to commit to at least two years of your time for up to 8-10 hours per month
* Able to effectively communicate orally and in writing
* Willing to participate in 32 hours of in-depth initial training and 12 hours of annual continuing education
* Hold a California driver’s license and have a 3 year safe driving history
* Able to pass criminal and CPS history background checks
* Over the age of 21

We offer tailored corporate volunteering programs designed to strengthen your company's social impact while supporting vulnerable populations. These opportunities include:

1. In-kind contributions and events. Activity Timeline: 2-4 weeks for collection, 1 day for the event. Company employees organize an internal collection based on needs identified by our organization, such as school supplies, clothing and shoes in children’s sizes, or toys. On a meaningful date, staff members visit a children’s home to deliver the items and host a celebration with the children.

2. Infrastructure improvements. Activity Timeline: 1 day. Employees visit the facilities of a partner organization to carry out previously identified improvement projects, bringing required supplies such as paint, tools, trees, shovels, or construction materials.

3. Institutional development. Activity timeline: To be defined on a case-by-case basis. Company employees volunteer their professional expertise to address organizational challenges aligned with their area of specialization. Identified needs may include communication strategies, website or social media management, accounting, administration, logistics, human resources, or legal and tax advisory services.

Key Considerations:

• Validated organizations: The Foundation collaborates exclusively with other nonprofit organizations that have a proven track record of impactful work for underserved population groups such as children and youth, people with disabilities, the elderly and families. We prioritize proximity, safety, accessibility, and alignment with the company’s desired focus areas.

• Administrative fee: To ensure professional coordination that meets both company objectives and high logistical standards, the Foundation requires an administrative fee that is determined depending on the complexity of the activities and time required for planning and implementation. In return, a tax-deductible receipt (CFDI) will be issued to the company.

• Infrastructure projects: For infrastructure improvements, the company must provide the required materials and supplies based on a budget and needs list provided after site assessments and project approval.

These corporate volunteering opportunities offer meaningful engagement for employees while making a direct, lasting impact on the lives of those in need.
