CASA of Tarrant County and its court-appointed volunteers advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children

Each year, thousands of children in Tarrant County are confirmed victims of child abuse and neglect. These children have experienced terrible trauma, and their lives are turned upside down. Child Protective Services takes legal responsibility for them, and may place them in a foster home or other facility. Due to too few foster homes, siblings are often split up into different places. Children are rarely able to stay in their own schools, day cares, or communities. Everything they have known is gone. Through no fault of their own, these abused children have become a part of an overburdened child welfare system. They deserve a voice in the courtroom. They need a CASA volunteer!

From helping siblings find permanent placement together, to finding a child a stable home with a relative, to uncovering information that helps reunite a loving family, volunteer advocates make incredible differences in the lives of abused and neglected children.
- You’ll talk with the child and their family members, teachers and others to find out where the child will be happiest and safest: with the parent(s), a relative or a loving foster family.
- You’ll speak for the child in court, making your fact-based recommendation for placement to the judge.
- You’ll act as the one constant in the child’s life as they experience changes in foster placements, schools and caseworkers.

Kids in foster care need CASA Volunteers. A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a trained community volunteer, sworn in by a judge or commissioner, who is appointed by Jackson County CASA to advocate for a child or children who are in the Jackson County Family Court system due to abuse or neglect.

CASA Volunteers get to know the children they represent, learn and understand the child's situation, develop a plan with the CASA team, explain the court process to the child, and work toward getting the child into a safe, permanent home with family whenever possible.
