In 2012, The END IT Movement emerged as a vehicle for awareness. The goal was clear; to leave no hiding place for slavery to exist unseen and unchallenged. The people of the world would begin shining a light on slavery. ECPAT-USA is one of 16 Coalition Partners who works to bring awareness, prevention, rescue and recovery in the global fight against human trafficking. Now and on Feb 7 Shine A Light On Slavery Day, post photos of red Xs on hands and share on social media to raise awareness of human trafficking. Our Therapeutic Riding Program depends on volunteers like you to provide the unique form of therapy one can only get from a horse. We need people to groom, tack, handle the horses and to act as support people for riders with disabilities. Some of our riders are as young as 3 years old and it is wonderful to see what being on a horse can do for them.

Build 10 Move In-Kits for Transition-Age Foster Youth
Cost: A move-in kit typically costs $250 or more.
Suggested Group Size: 5 or more

Description:
Hundreds of foster youth ages 18-24 are moving into their very first apartment. Unity Care invites you to host a Move-In Kit collection drive. With your help, these foster youth will have a better transition as they settle into a studio or one-bedroom apartment. The move-in kit is comprised of basic home essentials to get them started in their new home. This volunteer project is highly recommended for groups of five or more.

Delivery Instructions: When you are ready to deliver your donation, please contact volunteer@unitycare.org or call (408) 971-9822 x 4140 to coordinate a date and time. Donations may be delivered to our offices located in the following counties Santa Clara County, Placer County and San Francisco County.

Opportunity Details

Calm Waters provides year round grief and divorce support groups at no cost. All groups are lead by volunteers in the community. Support Group Leaders are required to complete training that is approximately 16 hours over a 3-4 day period. This volunteer opportunity provides a secure, long-term volunteer commitment where volunteers work directly with our families. Children range from 3 to 18 years of age and are broken into age appropriate groups. Adults are in a separate group and each night focuses on a different topic of their grief journey. On any given support group night, we utilize 15-20 volunteers. Volunteers stay with the same group of children or adults the entire duration of the group. Grief group is held on Monday evenings while Divorce Group is held on Thursday evenings.
