The last week in August and first week in September is when all the food programs have a gap in giving so MANY kids and parents are hungry. This happens all over NJ and Pennsylvania, among other states. It's a very difficult time for the families that are struggling. Every year, the last week of August, we have a big Kids Themed Day. For example, one year it was called "Hoops, Hatha, and Hope". It was three workshops; basketball, yoga, and a social-emotional learning activity. The kids (usually 60-80 in total) get split into 3 groups and in the course of the day get to attend each workshop. The day includes breakfast, lunch, lots of snacks and water, and a huge take-home bag of snacks, school supplies, toiletries, etc. The kids have a GREAT time and get to have another day of healthy food to eat. This day is approximately $3,500 to run- which includes everything. We are ALWAYS looking for individuals and companies of people to volunteer for our Kid's Day event the last week of August. We need approximately 15-20 volunteers every year for this fun event. It is usually help somewhere in Mercer County, NJ.
