Dancing with the Stars is a fundraiser modeled after the hit television show. Local "celebrities" compete in a dance competition for the coveted mirror ball trophy. There is a silent auction available and guests are served a plated meal. The funds raised at this event will directly impact children in Florida served by One Hope United.Since its inception, One Hope United’s purpose has been to care for children and to ensure they grow up in safe, loving environments. Today OHU’s team of over 700 talented professionals serves thousands of children and families each year in Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Florida. One of our most important goals is to ensure a safe and loving home for every child. We work with children of all ages who are wards of the state due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. These children need a stable, dependable, forever home and a family they can call their own. Safe, well-educated and well-cared-for children become adults who contribute to a more prosperous community.
One Hope United has support and counseling available for adoptive parents, children and families to help them grow together every step of the way.

CASA/LA is the only organization in Los Angeles providing court-appointed advocates to children in foster care to help them navigate not only the trials of the courtroom, but also the trials of a challenged childhood. Being a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is unlike any other volunteer opportunity. CASA volunteers become a critical part of a young person’s life; a stable, steadfast adult who cares about the child over the long term without ever being paid to do so. Just showing up is extraordinary.Committed, highly-trained volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are appointed by a judge to an individual child’s case, to act and advocate for the child’s best interests in court and in all aspects of their life, making a positive difference and giving them an opportunity to thrive. Through an intentional and culturally responsive lens, we train committed, consistent and caring adults who can change the trajectory of a child’s life through strengths-based advocacy and life-affirming connections.
CASA volunteers make a difference for children in foster care. Unlike most professionals, CASA volunteers are paired to work one-on-one with a child to ensure they have the services and support needed in the areas important to all children: a stable home, education, and healthcare. There are 30,000 kids in the foster care system in LA and many need the support of a CASA volunteer.
The CASA role includes:
-Maintaining regular contact with the child and visiting him/her at least once a month.
-Gathering information about the child’s circumstances, evaluating the facts independently, and providing recommendations to the court by means of written reports.
-Communicating objectively with children, social workers, foster care providers, therapists, teachers, attorneys, parents, or other family members who may be involved in the case.
Through these activities, CASA volunteers are instrumental in facilitating access to the material, educational, and physical and mental health services necessary for each child to thrive.
Benefits: CASA volunteers receive ongoing support from staff, developing their personal and professional skills. Volunteers also connect with like-minded individuals. Many of our volunteers say that being a CASA is the most personally rewarding role they have played, either paid or as a volunteer.
The first step towards getting involved is to either register for and complete our online webinar session OR attend an in-person information session. For more information, or to RSVP for a session, please visit: http://casala.org/volunteer/ or call 323-859-2888
