UCAN's main campus occupies seven acres on Chicago's west side and is a hub of activity for youth, families, and community members in residence or seeking services. We will be painting various areas to beautify the campus: a rusty shipping container, freshening up a mural, fence touch-ups -- all to create an atmosphere of care.

This event will happen rain or shine. If there is rain, we will paint interior rooms to be calming respite areas for youth in crisis.

Budget request: $1,000 is requested for painting and organizing supplies.

Get involved in supporting refugee families during their resettlement process by participating in our Community Support Groups. Your group of at least three volunteers can make a tangible impact through a four-month mentorship and support role, with a financial contribution of $3,000 to help with housing expenses, move-in fees, utility and rental assistance, or in-kind donations to furnish their new home. Walker Therapeutic and Educational Programs (Walker) is a leading non-profit organization providing a continuum of intensive, highly therapeutic academic and behavioral health programs to children, youth, and families across the Commonwealth. Walker’s services include residential and group home programs, community-based programs, outpatient and in-home services, and coaching, consultation, and professional development.

We're looking for volunteers to participate in indoor and outdoor activities including:

> Help beautify Walker’s campus! Volunteers will participate in outdoor beautification projects on our Needham campus where we have a variety of programs serving children. Projects include landscaping, weeding, and tidying up campus.

> Help the Walker School prepare for the 2024-2025 school year! Volunteers will make Back to School posters to welcome students to the new school year. You will also make greeting cards for staff to use when students need a pick-me-up or recognition during the school day. The Walker School is a therapeutic K-8 special education day school serving students ages 5-13 who are facing mental health, social-emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges.

Note: Due to the nature of Walker’s programs, we require all volunteers to complete an Agreement of Confidentiality, Agreement of Non-Disclosure, Volunteer Acknowledgement of the Use of Cameras, Communications Authorization, and additional paperwork as needed. Prior to the service day, volunteers will receive an email with the paperwork, which can be signed electronically.
