According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an estimatedthree-out-of-four child safety seats are installed or used improperly. The NHTSA also reports that the proper use of child safety seats and seat belts decreases the risk of death by an estimated 71% for infants and 54% for older children. Working in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, fire safety personnel, and healthcare organizations statewide, Safer New Mexico Now (Safer) assists local and community partners in conducting child safety seat inspection events, including fitting stations and clinics. During these events, parents and caregivers receive personal instruction from certified child passenger safety technicians on the proper selection and use of their child safety seats. This free service is funded by the New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division.

Volunteer groups have the opportunity to provide support to the families by preparing a meal at the shelter. Volunteer groups donate, prepare and serve the meals to the residents. Opportunities include: dinner Monday through Friday and Sunday breakfast.

Gold In September (G9) is the charity partner for several endurance running events in Wisconsin. At each race, we need volunteers to act as course marshals (directing traffic) as well as helping at water/food stations along routes.
