We are looking for adults (18+) to join our Leader Volunteer Teams to assist with the weekly running of our Cub, Scout and Explorer meetings.
We have experienced Lead Volunteers already for all these sections, but are looking to build a larger team to enable us to offer better activities and increase the number of young people we can offer Scouting to.
The roles are totally flexible, and do not require a weekly commitment. As part of the Volunteer Team, you can volunteer as many weeks as you are able. No experience is necessary, in fact our Scout Lead Volunteer was never a Scout or Guide! All training is provided, and the majority of this is now undertaken online. You will need to complete a DBS check as part of the volunteer process.

Join us as we host our third event of the year with the children and families in our Bow & Arrow Mentorship program. The "Bows" are the mentors, and the "Arrows" are the kids. Each event is themed around character building and fun memories that will last a lifetime. Through our partnership with the Salvation Army and WM, we have impacted hundreds of children experiencing difficult life situations such as homelessness, poverty, or critical illness.

Our upcoming event is themed around managing stress with a super fun boat building activity for the kids. We are looking for a few more volunteers to join our team and to help us create the environment where our Mentors can thrive, connect with the kids, and have a blast while doing it.

The Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin is hosting a week-long camp brought to us by the iCan Shine’s Bike program. The goal of the program is to teach individuals with disabilities how to ride a conventional bike and become a lifelong independent rider!
This year's location will be at Forest Park Middle School in the Franklin School District.
The dates of the camp are: July 29-August 2, 2024.
Volunteer orientation for the camp will be on Sunday, July 28 at Forest Park Middle School from 4-5 p.m. Attendance at the orientation is highly encouraged.
Ideally, each volunteer will be scheduled for a 90-minute session with their assigned rider, each of the five days of camp plus a 15 minute daily briefing before camp begins. If you cannot volunteer for all five days of the camp or at the same session all five days, please still consider volunteering. We will work with you and your schedule so that you can experience this awesome volunteer opportunity!

iCan Bike uses a fleet of adapted bicycles, a specialized instructional program and trained staff members to teach individuals with disabilities how to ride a bike. Riders attend their scheduled 75-minute session at the same time each day for five consecutive days (M – F). All participants are physically assisted and encouraged by two volunteer “spotters” throughout the duration of the one-week camp.
As the camp progresses, the adapted bike is adjusted to gradually introduce more instability in an effort to challenge riders at their own individual pace. The week concludes with a touching and inspiring award ceremony!
iCan Bike riders are children ages eight (8) and up, teens and sometimes adults who have a diagnosed disability but are able to walk without assistive devices and sidestep from side to side. Volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt so that they are clearly visible.

Volunteer Requirements for Bike Helpers:
Must be at least 15 years old (unless accompanied by an adult)
We prefer that you are able to attend for 90 minutes at the same time each day of the five days of camp. There will also be 15 minutes of training at the beginning of the session, and 15 minutes of debriefing at the end of the session. If you cannot attend the camp all five days, please still register to volunteer and we will work out a schedule with you.
Must be able to provide physical, emotional and motivational support to the assigned rider.
Must be able and willing to get some exercise (light jogging/running) for a great cause. *
*If these requirements are too strenuous, we have other volunteer opportunities for this event including check in table and general event support.
Volunteer Requirements for All Other Volunteer Areas: W e have many volunteer opportunities available if filling the position of a Bike Helper is too strenuous. Please note on the Volunteer Registration questions if there are specific skill areas, or physical limitations that we should consider when making assignments.
There are five different session times that are available for volunteer participants to identify during the sign-up process. Volunteers will be assigned to a 75-minute time slot that they will cover for the week. We also ask that volunteers arrive 15 minutes before their session time with riders begins for a daily debrief meeting.
Session times:
8:30 - 9:45 a.m.
10:05 - 11:20 a.m.
11:40 a.m. - 12:55 p.m.
2:00 - 3:15 p.m.
3:35 - 4:50 p.m.
According to research provided by iCan Shine, "80% of people with Autism and 90% of people with Down syndrome never learn to ride a two-wheel bike". Sign up to make a difference in someone's life today!

The process begins with ordering food from our local Meijer store on a monthly basis. Thanks to the generous support of box trucks from R & E Automated, the food is transported to our office. From there, our incredible community of volunteers sorts and packages the food each Wednesday at 3:00p.m. from September - June, guaranteeing that every child receives six meals for the upcoming weekend. The food is discreetly delivered to the schools, allowing teachers to distribute it in a way that respects each student’s privacy and avoids social stigma.

Ready to make a difference? MENTOR New York invites you to explore opportunities in our community using the Mentoring Connector, the only national database of youth mentoring programs. For more information, please visit www.mentornewyork.org/become-a-mentor

Think back to the mentoring figures in your life—be it teachers, coaches, or supervisors—who left a lasting positive impact. These people wear various hats, acting as delegators, role models, cheerleaders, policy enforcers, advocates, and friends. Mentors assume these different roles during the course of a relationship, and share some basic qualities:

- A sincere desire to be involved with a young person
- Respect for young people
- Active listening skills
- Empathy
- Ability to see solutions and opportunities
- Flexibility

Mentorships are a shared opportunity for learning and growth—in fact, mentors often find the experience as rewarding as their mentees! Mentors tell us volunteering enables them to:

- Have lots of fun
- Learn more about themselves
- Improve their self-esteem and sense that they're making an impact
- Gain a greater understanding of other cultures and appreciation for diversity
- Feel more productive and positive at work
- Enhance relationships with their own children
