CAMP holds nine week-long summer camp sessions each summer at Camp CAMP in Center Point, TX for Military and non-Military families that have individuals with special needs between the ages of 5 and 45. Each individual session runs Sunday – Friday and overnight stay is required. Camp provides a thorough orientation and continuous training for the program. Volunteers will be trained on how to work with individuals who have special needs - to include child development, hygiene and personal care, behavior management, medical diagnoses, and CAMP policies and procedures. Training is mandatory for all new and returning volunteers.

Opportunity Details

One Saturday or Sunday from September through May for 4-5 hours, “buddy” up with a teen or young adult aged 14-40 years. Trips may include visits to theme parks, the rodeo, museums, plays, sporting events and other activities in the San Antonio area. There are no entry fees for volunteers; CAMP covers the cost.

Opportunity Details

One weekend a month from September through May at our camping facility in Center Point, Texas. Help care for an individual with special needs and their siblings aged 5-40 years. Participate in all CAMP activities to include swimming, canoeing and horseback riding.

Opportunity Details

One Friday evening a month from September through May for 5 hours at our facility on Lackland AFB. Help educate and entertain dozens of children, aged 6 months to 13 years, with serious and chronic special needs and their siblings. PNO allows both Military and non-Military parents a chance to enjoy an evening to themselves while CAMP volunteers lead their children in educational games and social interaction.

That's what we believe in at The Family Effect. Join our children, ages 1 to 6 years, on Friday evenings for two hours of fun! Play outside, complete a craft, read a book, or put on a puppet show. Our kids love making new friends! This is a perfect opportunity for groups, families wanting to volunteer together, couples, and individuals.

All volunteers must complete screening and training prior to service to protect our children. Volunteers should have experience working with preschool-age children and be able to demonstrate appropriate interaction skills.

Position Description:

This work is with the Somos Village mothers and children who attend the local school. A working knowledge of English in Guatemala is a strong tool to rise out of poverty and underemployment. This teacher would design an appropriate curriculum and implement it in daily classes. It may also include some work to be coordinated at the local public elementary school. Must also be willing to assist in other capacity building activities with the mothers and children.

Position Description:

Seeking a creative, detail oriented videographer to photograph and film the various activities that are taking place at Project Somos. Using the footage, you will be expected to create promotional videos that exemplify Project Somos' values. These videos will be featured on our social media websites, and will be created in a team setting in conjunction with the Executive Director and Social Media Intern. Additionally, the Videographer may be asked to organize and file videos/photographs and label them accordingly. Successful candidates will also be expected to photograph the progression of various projects on location, and may be asked to photograph special events if required.

Skills Required:

Portfolio submission required
Competency in, and access to Photoshop an asset
Must own a digital SLR camera, or have knowledge of how to use one

Position Description:

Looking for a passionate and proactive communications intern to expand and update Project Somos' social media platforms for public relations. Our social media intern will actively interact with online communities (including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) by building and managing social media profiles and developing our internet presence. The successful candidate would work in coordination with the Executive Director in redesigning Project Somos' official website, to make it more user friendly. Additionally, daily duties will include scanning newspapers/websites daily for stories that would be relevant to Project Somos and assisting with philanthropy and sponsorship announcements.

Skills Required:

Marketing experience, preferably in IT
Knowlage of basic web design
Self starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision
Strong communication presentation and influencing skills essential

Position Description:

This position requires working alongside our Guatemalan pre-school teacher in our newly developed pre-school program. A knowledge base or curiosity of Waldorf education is a must as we have a Waldorf-inspired pre-school program which embraces the natural curiosity of the child, nature and incorporates arts and music. The program includes a parent participation aspect so that the early childhood educator can role model adult-child interactions to the parents.
