We are looking for eager folks to help set up our “Holiday Shop!" Every year, the Center hosts a Holiday Shop for our adult participants to come in and select items for their children. For some families, our shop is an incredibly helpful resource, easing financial, time, and access barriers. The gifts within our Holiday Shop also serve as a tangible manifestation of the support of our wider community. It is not uncommon for parents (or grandparents) to become overwhelmed when they see the generosity of people they do not know and we always have volunteers on hand to support them.
This volunteer opportunity regularly occurs in early December. Gifts are delivered to the Center and volunteers are needed to assist with lifting, carrying, and displaying small to large-size items. Support with decorating is also much appreciated!
Creativity Welcome!!
It is always helpful to have someone with a flair for presentation/display, but it is not necessary. We will have photos from past years, but welcome all suggestions and ideas for making the space bright and inviting!
This opportunity requires a minimum of six volunteers for an allotted 1/2 to full day. If you are interested in assisting with our Holiday Shop, please email volunteer@cgcmaine.org for more information!

Four (4) hours of childcare service per week to the same family
Make a Difference in a child's life, Become a Nanny Angel!
Imagine a world where every family with cancer receives the care needed for their children – so they have enough time to care for themselves. Now, also imagine a world where every child receives the support they need to cope with their parent’s illness or death.
The Nanny Angel Network (NAN) offers rewarding volunteer positions for skilled childcare providers who are looking to make a difference in the lives of families.
Nanny Angels provide free, specialized in-home relief childcare support for parents who have been diagnosed with cancer, for those requiring palliative care, and for families requiring additional relief during the bereavement period.
Nanny Angels lessen the impact of cancer on families, by engaging children in enjoyable, age-appropriate activities to help reduce any stress or anxiety they may be experiencing due to their parent’s illness or death.
By visiting weekly, building trust, and having fun, Nanny Angels help parents gain the confidence and peace of mind to rest or attend appointments, knowing their children are cared for and supported by knowledgeable and compassionate volunteers.
Nanny Angels receive specialized training including children’s grief and bereavement and receive the support of NAN’s Child Life Specialist throughout their volunteering time.
Kindly note, that the role is not that of a babysitter, housekeeper, or personal assistant – a Nanny Angel’s primary focus is engaging and supporting the children.

Project Title: Festival Needs of the Special Children (God’s Own Children)Description:
While many of us use the time of Christmas, New Year & Diwali to spend time celebrating and having fun with family and friends, eating a lot of food, opening up gifts and making merry, there are individuals who simply cannot complement this. The reality is that this festive season can be a harsh reminder of people’s lack of happiness, joy, love and acceptance in their lives. It is a time where some are surrounded by many and others are alone, without family, friends or individuals by their side.
Poverty is a massive, worldwide problem in all countries and during the festive season, poor individuals are often forgotten and neglected. In fact, buying expensive gifts overshadows the fact that so much money could also go towards investing in projects that could provide opportunities for poor people to be alleviated from poverty.
During this Festive & Holiday Season, take time to think about giving a helping hand to individuals who are less fortunate than you. Whether it is an organisation you will assist or just one person you pass by, a simple action can make a difference.
Yes, Diwali Christmas and New Year is a joyful time and we do not want take away your happiness, but we do think that it is important to be conscious about individuals around us who may not be able to share the same happy, joyful narrative that you have because of the positions that they are in.
This festive season is an excellent time to start thinking about helping other people, especially the people who are in urgent need of support and care. This could include providing food, clothing, sweet and toy for charity families to enable them to experience the joys of the holiday season.
Please support these special children during this festive season, it will make a difference. Remember that it all starts with us.
