Daily oral hygiene is essential to keep a healthy smile. Though this event, we offer a wonderful way for CBN (Carter Burden Network) older adults to learn about oral care and the importance of maintaining a healthy smile. If they are listening carefully, they have a chance to win a game of oral care-themed trivia! Volunteers are welcome to collaborate and share a brief 20-minute presentation on oral care (ideally with some focus on older adult oral care), and then partake in an open Q&A. Additionally, there will be a trivia game of 10 oral care-themed questions that volunteers will prepare in advance to ask during the game.Every round of trivia will consist of one winner, each of whom will win prizes donated from Colgate. In the spirit of good CBN sportsmanship, all older adult participants will leave as winners, receiving a nominal Colgate product. Products may include, but are not limited to tooth brushes, floss, mouth wash, etc. CBN staff will keep track of the names of the older adults that answer trivia questions correctly in order to properly distribute prizes (TBD at Colgate’s discretion). There will be here will be a moment of socialization with our members before start of event consisting of light breakfast items being served.
The event will take place in-person (up 40 older adults are expected to attend). All volunteers (10 maximum volunteers) MUST attend a brief pre-event meeting (or view recording of it) on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 at 2pm to go over house rules and any questions or concerns you may have in preparation for the 9/12 volunteer event. "MOW to EMPOWER: A Veteran's Journey Home, ONE BLADE at a Time!"Join a transformative act of KINDNESS! Help an AIR FORCE veteran secure her DREAM HOME through a one-time LAWN MOWING act, creating a lasting LEGACY of hope and honor
At the heart of our nation's tapestry lies an unsung heroine, a courageous veteran who has served our country with fortitude and honor, in the esteemed United States Air Force. Now in her golden years, she's seeking our support for a one-time act of compassion that could forever change her life's landscape.
This noble warrior of our times, a resilient woman in her late 60's, has set her sights on securing a place she can call home, a sanctuary she rightly deserves. Standing in the path of her dream is a humble patch of land, a verdant challenge that merely requires the merciful touch of a lawn mower.
The stage is thus set for your act of kindness to ring loud. All we need is a willing heart with the right equipment to swing by and mow down this final barrier. Let your actions echo as a tangible token of gratitude for her indomitable service, helping to create a haven for her to peacefully cherish.
This green endeavor is a part of the City of New Orleans' commendable Mow 2 Own program, a beacon of hope for those seeking solace in the space they inhabit. It's a grand opportunity to transform a once neglected lot adjacent to a tiny backyard, into a potential oasis through diligent care for a year before it could be purchased, saving it from the cold uncertainty of auction.
As a proud 501c3 non-profit organization, we are a sanctuary for those in need. Our expansive network of volunteers tirelessly serves to provide lawn relief to the elderly and veterans who need it the most. To ensure the safety of our valued volunteers, we offer robust volunteer accident insurance coverage.
Join us in this noble endeavor. Make a difference with your benevolent act, leaving an indelible mark on a life, forever echoing a story of resilience and kindness in the face of adversity. Remember, it's more than just a patch of grass. It's a chance to cultivate hope, one blade at a time.

In 2023 Community Partnership on Aging (CPA) will celebrate its 45th Anniversary. Since its incorporation in 1978 the agency has grown from three cities to six (Mayfield Heights joined the agency in 2011, Mayfield Village in 2013 and Richmond Heights in 2019. South Euclid, Lyndhurst and Highland Heights were the original three) and has proven to be a staple organization for quality programs and services for both active and frail older adults, and their families. While the types of services and programs may have changed with the times, overall needs have not. Community Partnership on Aging was formed by those three original mayors who recognized a need as well as a desire for older adults who want to remain active and independent in their homes for as long as possible. Keeping older adults in their homes not only means they maintain a high sense of self-worth, it means they are remaining active and vital contributors to our communities and to the economy. The Chili Cook-Off first took place in 2013. Utilizing the fire department staff of each of the fire departments as chili ‘chefs’, the event has become extremely high profile and much anticipated among older adults, the fire departments, municipal staff and the community at large, regularly selling out in advance of the event.
This year the event will take place on Friday, October 27 at Highland Heights Community Center, and 2023 marks the first year the event will return since COVID! Additionally, Richmond Heights FD has never had an opportunity to participate due to COVID shut downs.
This is a no-fee entry contest; however, CPA awards $500 to the chili entry named Best Chili via a blind judges’ vote. We also award a trophy to the Audience Choice winner; this year we anticipate another full house of approximately 150 participants!
Your help is needed on the day of the event. We are scheduling volunteers to help with serving, raffle/general event help and clean up after the event.
