As of the first week of June 2021, we have reopened our senior meal sites to the public, which are located in Birchwood, Minong, Shell Lake, and Spooner. Besides preparing the daily meals to be delivered to homes, the staff is also preparing and serving congregate meals served onsite and offering a Grab & Go option to participants age 60+. If your passion resides in the kitchen preparing, serving, and packaging food with love and you are willing to become ServSafe certified, please consider volunteering at one of our meal sites. Call Missy Murley, Nutrition Director at 715-635-4460 to volunteer.

In order for us to meet the increased demand for Home Delivered Meals throughout Washburn County, we have reopened the recruitment for volunteers. Homemade meals are prepared Monday-Friday out of our kitchens located in Spooner, Birchwood, and Minong. Home-delivered meals are available to older adults age 60+ who are homebound due to health reasons, and physically or emotionally unable to travel for a meal with others. During COVID, eligibility opened to any Wisconsin older adult age 60+, in need of meals. This will most likely continue through the end of 2021. Call Missy Murley, Nutrition Director at 715-635-4460 to volunteer.

Is there mileage reimbursement for volunteers?
Home Delivered Meals drivers and RSVP drivers will be given the following options for mileage reimbursement:

If using your own vehicle:
 Option 1: Complete and turn in the monthly Travel Expense Voucher and receive the current Federal Reimbursement Rate of .56 cents per mile. Since this reimbursement option is over the allowable non-taxable volunteer rate of .14 cents per mile, once total reimbursement over .14 cents per mile equals $600 or more within any fiscal year, you will be issued a 1099 at the end of that year, which is reportable income for tax purposes.
 Option 2: Complete and turn in a monthly Travel Expense Voucher and receive the current Federal Volunteer Non-Taxable Reimbursement rate of .14 cents per mile.
 Option 3: Opt-out of receiving a volunteer mileage reimbursement, but remain eligible to deduct “out of pocket” expenses incurred in providing donated services up to .14 cents per mile when filing taxes.

If using a county vehicle:
 Option 1: Complete and turn in a monthly Travel Expense Voucher and receive the Federal Volunteer Non-Taxable Reimbursement rate of .14 cents per mile.
 Option 2: Opt-out of receiving a volunteer mileage reimbursement, but remain eligible to deduct “out of pocket” expenses incurred in providing donated services up to .14 cents per mile when filing taxes. There would most likely not be any expenses incurred.
