The Muscular Dystrophy Association is the world’s leading nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular diseases.
Volunteers are the driving force that enables MDA to accelerate its worldwide research program and provide diagnostic and follow-up care through a nationwide network of 200 medical clinics.

MDA needs your help with various projects within the office to help us with upcoming events. We need volunteers to help call MDA families to participate in our muscle walk, prepare muscle walk team captain & registration packets, write walk postcards and thank you notes, call for donated items for our muscle walk and auction, make new patient packets, organize, answer the phone, filing and general event prep. We are very flexible to your schedule.

As we age, changes in vision, flexibility, strength, range of motion, and height can make us less comfortable and reduce our control behind the wheel. To help prolong the time seniors can remain independent, mobile, and safe while driving, Safer works in partnership with AAA, AARP, and the American Occupational Therapy Association to provide CarFit services. CarFit is a free, interactive, and educational program that teaches participants how to make their personal vehicle “fit” them to increase safety and mobility when they hit the road. Trained technicians offer a 12-point safety assessment, including adequate space from the steering wheel, proper seat belt use, properly adjusted head restraints and seats, and proper mirror positioning, to help older drivers become more comfortable behind the wheel. Each CarFit appointment takes approximately 20 minutes and is not a driving test or mechanical inspection.

Founded in Watertown, NY in 1954, the Jefferson Rehabilitation Center (JRC) has provided programs and services to thousands of children and adults in Jefferson County who are developmentally and intellectually disabled. Much has changed since the agency was launched in the basement of a church by a group of farsighted parents.
Today, JRC is an independent, not-for-profit corporation employing over 650 staff members and serving more than 1000 individuals and their families each year. JRC provides a wide range of services that are designed to enhance the quality of life and maximize the potential of persons with disabilities through education, vocational opportunities, training, residential services, inclusion, and advocacy in a community-based setting. A dedicated staff of medical, educational and therapeutic professionals, and specially trained direct care personnel provide the necessary support and training to the individuals JRC supports.
All funds raised from the Scarecrow Scuttle will benefit the people with developmental and intellectual disabilities that the Jefferson Rehabilitation Center supports each day. Participation of volunteers, runners, and sponsors will help JRC to continue its mission of enhancing the quality of life and maximizing the potential of people with disabilities. In previous years funds raised at this event assisted with purchasing specialized wheelchair vans, physical therapy equipment, and recreational involvement for the people supported. Funds raised have also been able to assist families in times of emergencies, as well as purchase educational tools which promote independence.
