Home Repair/Minor Repairs/ Yard Work: This can be an array of requests from lightbulb and air filter changes to screen door adjustments and yard work. Confirmation with the client first will ensure the volunteer can fulfill the request.Opportunity Details
Driver: This activity is broad with responsibilities regarding doctor appointments, grocery and essentials shopping, banking, etc. This activity can be round trip, or if an extended appointment longer than 1 hour, will result in a split trip which the volunteer can choose to drive one way or both. Doctor appointments are requested with scheduled times, as opposed to errands, which often are open scheduling. Volunteers and clients confirm all details beforehand.

For nearly 50 years, The Alex has served as a hub to provide thoughtful, comprehensive care to vulnerable Calgarians. With programs that utilize clinical and social components, The Alex tackles tough health and social issues head-on, with a preventative, cost-effective approach. The Alex serves a community with complex health needs, often the result of issues such as poverty, trauma, homelessness, or addiction. At The Alex whole health is the goal.The Alex is an example of the crucial role that strategic social supports play in not only making our communities stronger, but being a “part of the fixing” as we recreate our communities all over again, to create positive and lasting change for local lives. United Way is building a foundation for strong communities by investing in services and supports that strengthen and connect all residents.
After the virtual Tour of the Alex, help individuals to build those meaningful relationships and feel more included in the social life of their communities by writing an encouraging note to a senior alone in their homes or retirement residences who needs uplifting. We’ll collect these thought-filled notes and send them to our network of agencies who interact with these individuals everyday. We might not all be expert writers but all of us can write a note from the heart and make someone feel that they are cared for or thought about.

Looking to partner with individuals and companies to provide snow removal in their select areas for their communities.
We can provide the leads and coordinate logistics. Whether it's back-office help recruiting helpers or frontline helpers with shovels and a means to transport around, or even snow blowers would be most helpful!

Do you have a flexible work schedule or early morning weekday availability? Would you like to volunteer with an organization making a difference in the lives of seniors and individuals with disabilities?Join us as a Volunteer Shopper with Help At Your Door!
In this role you will work to fill grocery orders for Help At Your Door clients. Orders are printed and ready for our shoppers on weekday mornings starting at about 6:00 a.m. Volunteer shoppers take the lists and walk through the stores, finding the items and filling the grocery carts. Volunteers help double-check each cart, assist with the check-out process, and help pack the groceries into totes to be ready for delivery. Shoppers do not pay for or deliver the groceries themselves.
Shopping shifts typically last 3 hours; and shoppers can sign up to help on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Volunteers can work with a family member or friend. Volunteers must have weekday early morning availability to assist with this role.
Help At Your Door has been serving seniors in the Twin Cities for more than 35 years. Due to the pandemic, our grocery shopping and delivery service is more needed than ever.

Lori's Hands serves community members in Newark, DE who are living with chronic conditions. Our student volunteers assist our clients with instrumental tasks of daily living, and in turn, they learn about the human experience of chronic illness. One of the most common activities our clients need assistance with is yard work. Every semester, we do a yard work day and invite community members to participate as we help clients care for their yards.
