Dedicated volunteers who restore independence through the installation of fall prevention equipment and construction of wooden ramps.

Responsibilities include:
Installation of home safety equipment
Construction and installation of wooden wheelchair ramps
Minor repairs based on 25-point inspection

Qualifications:
Solid home repair/handyperson skills
Ability to work with diverse clients, volunteers, and staff to create a friendly, helpful atmosphere
Ability to communicate in clear and encouraging language
Ability to provide services at least one day per week

Opportunity Details

Volunteer drivers truly "fuel" this program. Using their own vehicles, volunteer drivers deliver hot or frozen medically tailored, nutritious meals to our clients. Volunteers may sign up for one route per week, which is a 90 minute weekly commitment or if preferred they can sign up as a substitute driver. Volunteers will likely be delivering to 8-14 clients over the lunch hour. Volunteers help keep this program viable and affordable and they are often the only outside contact our clients see during any given day.

We are starting a pet food giving revolution! We are asking people to leave or give a bag of pet food/treats/litter to someone they know in their community that could use a little help. The item donated to your neighbor doesn't have to cost a lot of money, but the gesture is big! Sharing hope on this one day. Join us!

Assist members with light chores at their homes, such as: changing light bulbs, smoke detector batteries, and furnace or a/c filters; picking up the yard after a storm, trimming hedges (NO weekly lawn mowing); doing a couple loads of laundry, dusting, light vaccuming, etc.; hanging pictures or other art work.

IHABS's is constantly looking for volunteers interested in joining our Therapy Animal Program as a registered therapy canine team. As well, we are looking for experienced therapy canine handlers (or willing to train with us!) to join our Animal Assisted Crisis Intervention and Response Program.

Join us on Pack and Move Day to assist with selecting, cleaning, packing and delivery as we transform a house into a home for a homeless family, individual, or foster youth. By providing beds, tables, dishes, couches, etc. We ease the burden of our clients trying to furnish an empty apartment while working towards becoming self sustainable. Our service allows our clients to focus on work, school, and caring for their families. We meet in front parking lot at or storage unit, Armored Self Storage, 14245 S. 48th Street, Phoenix, 85048 at 7:30am. We will pack and load the truck, drive to the client’s home, unload the truck, set up the furniture and unpack household items. Volunteers are asked to carpool or drive themselves to the delivery location. Location of delivery will be determined closer to the work date. Able-bodied volunteers may be asked to lift heavy items and/or assemble furniture. There are less strenuous volunteer activities as well (unpacking boxes and making beds). A Volunteer Waiver and Confidentiality Agreement MUST be signed prior to volunteer day. Times may vary depending on location of the client’s home. We usually finish work by noon.
