Residents and Community benefit as we: increase socialization and decrease isolation, support and encourage family caregivers, provide increased access to services, provide transportation where there is limited public transportation, offer individuals opportunities to connect with and serve others, and offer hope to those in need who don’t know what to do or where to go for help.

We make Volunteering easy...
The schedule is yours to determine. A few hours now and then is wonderful. A few hours a week even better... you control what assignments fit your schedule and talents.

The CareGivers clients love Caring Cupboard volunteers. In a recent client satisfaction survey, 95 percent said the groceries – packed and delivered by volunteers – improved the quality of their life. Thanks to the program they are now able to get enough to eat and have money available for prescription medicine, heating oil and other fundamental needs. This wasn’t always the case beforehand.
The Caring Cupboard positively impacted the households of 350 homebound elderly in 2013, delivering 119,360 pounds of food. On average, about seven volunteers – donating one or two hours a month – took part in each client’s monthly delivery of free food.
There are three ways to volunteer.
Telephone Volunteer: Calling clients each month to create their food order from the goods stocked in the pantry. This takes a couple of hours and can be accomplished at home, in front of your personal computer.
Packing Volunteer: Coming to the Caring Cupboard pantry (19 Harvey Road) on either the first or third Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of each month to pack client food orders. Volunteers generally schedule two hour blocks, packing from pre-printed orders.
Driving Volunteer: Deliveries take place on the first and third Thursday of each month anytime from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Each driver is assigned a route (usually four homes in the same geographic proximity). The client’s contact information is attached to each bag of food. The driver receives driving directions and unpacks the food in the kitchen of each client.
