Looking for an opportunity to help at our Food Rescue facility? Food Finders owes much of its continued success to our dedicated network of volunteers! Everyone who is involved, whether on a regular or occasional basis, has a role in reducing hunger and is essential to sustaining our program. As little as an hour of your time a month or week can make a huge difference. We have no age restriction, although kids under 16 must be joined by a parent or guardian.

We have an ongoing need for volunteers to help us sort and box non-perishable food/hygiene items we receive through our Food Drives and for our Food 4 Kids program.
You can even involve your children and make it a family volunteer activity OR as a team building activity for you and your employees.

During the school year, Food Finders’ provides boxes of non-perishable food items to 47 local Long Beach schools. This donated and purchased food, packed and delivered by a team of volunteers, provides enough for 4-6 meals per family over the weekend in an effort to bridge the hunger gap many children experience when school meals are not available. The program is supported by volunteers who pack the food boxes and deliver the boxes to the schools every Thursday and Friday during the school year.

Do you have some free time during the day? If so, you might want to help us "rescue" food from going to waste.

Food Finders owes much of its continued success to our dedicated network of volunteers! As little as an hour of your time a month or week can make a huge difference. We have no age restriction, although kids under 16 must be joined by a parent or guardian.

Each year, we save an estimated 12 million pounds of food from being thrown away, and instead it is "redirected" to help feed people without money for food.

Peninsula Food Runners’ mission is to alleviate hunger and minimize food waste in the San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Every day, our volunteers pick up and deliver a wide variety of wonderfully prepared and non-prepared surplus food to community organizations that feed their clients in need.

In 2023, Peninsula Food Runners delivered 2.92 million meals to feed food insecure communities and diverted over 3.5 million pounds of good edible food from the landfill.

Peninsula Food Runners addresses 3 top issues that we are facing today.
1. Hunger and food insecurities contribute to family instability, psychological and physical
trauma. ***Distribution is #1 reason to why donated food can't get to those in need.

2. Food Waste is California's #1 waste. In US, approximately 40% of good edible food is wasted. This equates to $165 billion being dumped in landfills. Imagine recovering 21% of this wasted food, we will be able to feed 8.8 million Californians who are presently experiencing food insecurity.

3. Environmental Sustainability
Food waste is the #1 contributor of Methane. It is also 3x deadlier than CO2 which contributes to climate changes that we are experiencing today. This is a low hanging food that we can tackle but we need you to partner with us.

Here is how you can help make an impact. Volunteer and/or donate financially to Peninsula Food Runners mission.

1. Volunteer with Peninsula Food Runners to divert good food to those in need and address all 3 issues. Many food runs can be accomplished in less than an hour. Sign up to volunteer at www.peninsulafoodrunners.org

2. Donate financially to Peninsula Food Runners to ensure we can continue our work to educate more donors, recover more food, and relay all these good edible food to those in need.

Last but not least, start a campaign at your workplace to ensure your kitchens are donating the company's surplus at the end of the day to community organizations. Refer them to Peninsula Food Runners or email us at support@peninsulafoodrunners.org as to whom we should contact at your kitchen.

Thank you so much for your consideration.

gratefully yours,

Maria Yap
