What is the Business Skills Training (BST) Program?
Business Skills Training (BST) is a foundational entrepreneurship course where participants learn key business concepts and apply them to their own ideas. Through real-world examples and expert facilitation, they develop business plans in small, supportive cohorts. Offered three times a year, BST provides flexible weekly sessions for 5-8 participants per class.
Volunteers can choose a topic in the Business Skills Training program that they would like to facilitate in the following dates for the July 2025 Cohort (Summer Cohort).

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our mission. Their commitment and hard work inspire us every day. Let's continue to make a positive impact together! We are flexible on commitment but encourage once a week to build relationships with the patrons. Filling in on holiday breaks and when our placement students are off is also needed. Schedule is posted the week before and volunteers can claim shifts that work for their schedule.Our values:

9:15-1:15 or 12pm-4pm Monday-Friday:
-Coat Check: Assist patrons with our coat check procedures. Patrons put items in a sealed container during their visit and sometimes need to be gently reminded about our rules. One coat check volunteer takes down the patrons information while two other coat-check volunteers place the bins in a secure location and then wipe the bins out after use.
-Washroom Volunteers: Sign the patrons in and out of our washrooms, use a sanitizing wipe on high-touch surfaces like door knobs and taps after each use (not a detailed clean).
9:15-1:15PM Monday-Friday (no afternoon shift):
-Food and Clothing Bank: Organize and fulfill pantry orders for our patrons
-Food Service Volunteers: hand out pre-plated lunch, serve coffee, water and juice
Monday-Saturday 8am-Noon:
-Kitchen Volunteers: Cook, chop, plate lunch, and tidy the kitchen
As Needed:
-Pick Ups and Drops Offs: Occasionally, we need volunteers to pick up items, or drop them off around Oshawa and the surrounding area, such as bags of out-going or incoming donations

Basic Bookkeeping, balance bank statements, and data entry. Work from home or on-site. Once we catch up it should only require a couple of hours a week.

Leaders: Help with horses, lead horses while clients ride, grooming, hoof cleaning, and horse care. Assisting Clients with their horses.Side Walkers: Assisting clients with their horses. Walk beside the horses assisting clients with balance and riding skills and spotting clients to prevent falls. Perform grooming, hoof cleaning, horse care, and chores.

Sensory Saturday is a free opportunity for families of individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities to discover and explore the museum in a safe, understanding environment. Sensory Saturday provides guests with sensory needs a space to interact with the museum's exhibits as well as meet other families and learn about resources and opportunities our community has to offer. Volunteers provide additional helping hands allowing us to offer unique interaction experiences for our visitors.Available Shifts
