There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the permanent, joyful smile of our special needs guests as they experience the joys of the horse. They don't realize that this favorite hour of fun is really working their body, mind, and spirit! We need your help; one hour a day, one hour a week, one hour a month, one hour EVER, we cannot do what we do without the help of our incredible team of volunteers! To ensure the safest possible environment for our guests, in addition to the therapist, there is always a volunteer leading the horse and a volunteer walking alongside the horse and rider during a therapy session. The horse leader controls the horse as the therapist guides from one activity station to another, encouraging the horse to go, stop, turn, etc. A side-walker interacts with the therapist and child as directed by our trained therapy partners. They may participate in games such as bean bags, basketballs, etc, or they may offer a little extra balance and support for those in need of it. Because of the nature of our program and the often vulnerable demographic we work with, all volunteers who work with the children and horses must undergo training. No matter what your experience with horses is, you will leave knowing the basics of horse care and the Manes and Miracles Method.* This 'shift' sign up is for attendance to the Volunteer Orientation! Once you have been trained, you will be invited to sign up for additional shifts. If you are unable to attend this scheduled training but would like to volunteer, please contact us for information about future orientations!
THANK YOU!
