New Directions for Autism is an adult autism day program located in Suwanee GA that serves individuals who require significant levels of support and are not quite ready to transition from high school into other vocational or educational pursuits. New Directions provides them the opportunity to have fun and socialize with their peers while continuing to develop those life skills that are so crucial to independent living. Our annual wine tasting fundraiser will support New Directions and assist in the growth of the new Life Skills Training Program which will help facilitate the individuals' practice of daily living skills such as cleaning, cooking, laundry, banking and taking care of a household. The goal is attaining maximum self-determination and independence for these awesome individuals.

Improving literacy in adults with developmental disabilities is key to being more independent and functional. Many adults with developmental disabilities cannot read and are dependent on others to help them navigate daily life in most environments. This limits their ability to travel, shop, work in certain settings, order for themselves off a restaurant menu, and navigate through an unfamiliar building.
On Literacy Day, the trainers at Building Blocks Ministries will work with adults with developmental disabilities on word/picture recognition by using flash cards. Individuals will be awarded points for every flash card they get correct! The flash cards will then be placed on the walls all throughout the center. At the end of the event all the flashcards will be counted to determine how many words the individuals in Building Blocks Day Training Program recognized.
