The Lights of Courage Luncheon is the largest grossing fundraiser for Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance; raising money for every day support for children with cancer and their families in Houston. The Luncheon hosts 500 guests and honors four childhood cancer children and their families as well as local community members. This space needs some cleaning up, another coat of paint, and setting up for the big day! The Paint & Partake space will serve as a gallery and event space for Awakening Minds Art, and the proceeds will continue to benefit AMA programming. Cares of Washington is looking for passionate people to serve on our board of directors to oversee and guide the organization to open doors and change lives for more and more people in Washington State.We are looking for people that are passionate about our vision of supporting an equitable, inclusive community committed to stability and fulfillment. Our mission is: “Support people with disabilities and low incomes to realize their purpose, potential, and strength”. We are looking for people with lived experiences related to our mission as well as professional backgrounds in one or more of the following areas: marketing/branding, business development, and training.
The responsibilities of a Cares board member are:
Evaluate the Executive. The Board Chair will provide an annual evaluation to Cares CEO with input from the Cares Board.
Make an annual financial gift. Board members are expected to make an annual financial donation that is personally meaningful to each person.
Oversee the financials and investments of Cares of Washington
Review, approve and monitor the budget.
Oversee organization programs and policies.
Set individual fundraising goals and work to achieve these goals every year. Participate in fundraising in whatever ways are best suited for the individual. This may include individual solicitations, recruiting business partners, identifying and making introductions to prospects, etc.
Prepare for and attend in person board meetings, be available for phone consultation, and serve on at least one committee/work group as needed.
Attend 8 board meetings annually in person and/or 2 virtually on the last Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm to 7:30pm.
The average time that a board member spends on Cares board activities varies from month to month, i.e. board meetings, subcommittee work, strategic planning and representation. On average a board member has spent 5 hours a month.

CFAN's Annual FASD Breakfast takes place on September 9th. The event, which attracts over 100 individuals, professionals, government officials, policy makers and others affected by FASD, relies on volunteers for organization, set up and more. Individual and group opportunities available.

CFAN is currently seeking 3-4 members for our Empowerment Fund Granting Committee. The Cathy Lane Goodfellow Empowerment Fund provides financial bursaries for individuals living with FASD and/or their caregivers or families. Committee members should be able to commit to a two-year term with approximately 4 meetings per year. The Day Centre provides a choice of programs and activities to enhance well-being by providing social, physical and mental stimulation. Volunteers participate as a team to support, and assist to implement the Day Program.The duties include:
• Socialize with members;
• Serve lunch to members;
• Assist with walking/exercise program;
• Assist with all planned activities;
• Assist with distribution and clean-up of afternoon snack;
• Assist with fundraising activities, including Bazaar (optional);
• Attend interdenominational chapel service (optional);
• Attend mandatory meetings and training as scheduled; and

Community Support Services helps seniors and adults with physical disabilities who live in their own homes.The Telephone Assurance Program (TAP) provides a volunteer who calls a client every weekday morning to make sure the client is able to answer the phone and advises the Program Coordinator if the call is not answered.
