Seniors’ Centre Without Walls Program allows low income, vulnerable and isolated seniors and adults with physical disabilities to access out network of programs and services from their home through teleconferencing services
Seniors’ Centre Without Walls Volunteers facilitates discussion and mediates programs/activities set out in the SCWW’s calendar.

Some of the duties are:
• Greets and welcomes clients;
• Leads groups, keeps discussions on track;
• Researches topics for discussion;
• Encourages participation by all group members;
• Resolves minor group conflicts;
• Reports and requests assistance for serious conflicts

Opportunity Details

The Transportation program provides transportation to essential services at a reasonable cost to seniors and adults with physical disabilities, who are not able to drive, use public buses or use Para Transpo. Volunteer drivers use their own, well maintained cars to drive clients to and from appointments.

Volunteers for Buddy's and Homer the Miracle League Mascot for Saturday April 27th games. Duration a total of 3 hours. There are 3 games and each game will last 1 hour. Each game we will need 13 buddy's to assist the kids in the games. We will have Homer our mascot and need a volunteer to dress up as homer and a guide to walk with Homer during each game. Minimum requirement is to have 15 volunteers for this activity.

The Adaptive Sports and Recreation Association’s 33rd Annual Junior Adaptive Sports Camp is here! This camp was created for kids ages 4-18 with physical challenges to help cultivate a love for sports. This unique 5-day experience will take place July 22-27, 2019 at North Crown Point Park and Miramar College and features 15 different sports and unlimited fun! The athletes work with committed volunteers and sports instructors who share a passion for adaptive sports, while learning the fundamentals of activities such as wheelchair basketball, tennis, archery, swimming, handcycling, water tubing, rugby, and more. Athletes develop important skills to help them stay active and healthy, while developing positive self-esteem, leadership, independence and establish a desire for life long activity – because everyone deserves a chance to play!

Come out to volunteer for an afternoon with our Mission Road Ministries' Adult and Children's Programs. Volunteers are needed to assist with the hiding and hunting of Easter eggs, BBQ hotdogs, serve food & snacks, and set-up and run easy carnival games, for our adult and children clients.

Mission Road Ministries is an organization that serves adults and children with IDD (Intellectual Developmental Disabilities-formerly Mental Retardation) by each day challenging them to achieve their full potential for independence, productivity and inclusion in the community. Our Unicorn Centers and Mission Road Developmental Center, both provide our adults and children with active, purposeful, vibrant programs to help them learn, improve and retain the life skills that are necessary to live and participate successfully in home and community life.

We are in need of middle school, high school and adult volunteers recommend volunteers for all of our classes and workshops which includes arts/crafts, social club, adaptive dance. VOlunteers need to be committed for the entire sesssion. We will provide community service hours for those interested. It's the volunteer responsibility to get the papers signed at the end of activity. Since we have children of all ages attending our classes, we request you to sign up at the earliest to help us pairing up with our kids.

Information on what we do

Arts/Crafts classes - Arts crafts for all ages with different abilities ( beginners to advance ). We focus on fine motor skills, social/communication skills and pre vocational skills in the form of exploring colors and various crafts activities as simple as making a bracelet to wood carving . Social Club - Our social skills group is led by teen volunteers for all ages and all abilities. The purpose of this group is to promote social/communication skills, build friendship and develop leisure skills. Actvities in social skills group include board games, lego club, reading and many more

Adaptive Dance - We offer dance classes for Ages 4 and above for children/adults with special needs. This is a peer interaction program and we focus on learning dance and building social and communication skills. The volunteers also get the opportunity to perform on stage in many community events.

Urban Pursuit is an "Amazing Race" type event in the St. John's area. Teams of 2 fundraise and then race to complete 10 tasks in 10 locations for a chance to win $3,000. Volunteers are essential to the success of Urban Pursuit!

Roles:

Task Volunteers: We need task volunteers to help us run and oversee each of the 10 tasks in various locations around the city. Each volunteer will be stationed at one task for the day, and they will be in charge of explaining the task rules to the teams and ensuring that the rules are followed.

Team Volunteers: Each team must be accompanied to each task by one volunteer who will be in charge of recording times and ensuring that the teams complete all of the tasks in the correct order.

General Volunteers: It is important for us to have general volunteers who will help with things like set up and tear down, as well as cleaning up afterwards.
