As members of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America Arizona Chapter, we are
dedicated to providing support and advocacy to everyone who is impacted by HD in our
community. Every day we make an impact in the lives of those affected by Huntington's
disease (HD). We provide support services, offer education resources, and fund
innovative research on this neuro-degenerative disease that affects over 250,000
Americans.
HD is a devastating, hereditary, degenerative brain disorder that results in a loss of
cognitive, behavioral, and physical (motor) control and diminishes the affected
individual's ability to walk, talk, and reason. The disease can strike at any time in life,
but generally adults are affected during the prime of their life between the ages of 30-
50, robbing them of their time with family, forcing them out of careers and leaving them
dependent on a caregiver for their basic needs. You can learn more at www.hdsa.org.
We are requesting your support for our 2025 Celebration of Hope Casino that is taking
place on June 7th at Valley Garden Center 1809 North 15th Ave, Phoenix Arizona.
Celebration of Hope events are one of the flagship events organized by HDSA’s
volunteer-led Chapters and Affiliates nationwide to recognize those who have made an
impact in their community while inspiring others to join the fight against Huntington's
disease. You can learn more about this event at arizona.hdsa.org/casino

Why is the event important?
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability affecting children and adults, and 15,000 are served by county Developmental Disabilities services alone. This grant will provide Kroger gift cards during the holidays to families impacted by Autism. These families will be able to choose specialty foods they require. Simply having the foods you need can often decrease anxiety and isolation. For years ARRO has provided $100 gift cards to these families, including 781 in 2024. The need is growing. No other organization is doing this. Over the years we have witnessed the intense happiness ARRO gift cards bring. More is needed.

Volunteer!
Invitation to volunteers: We need your help!

An Evening for Autism helps raise funding for the projects we do like the Family Holiday Assistance Project and other projects. We have various activities that require help in supervising activities, setup, and teardown. There is a casino, raffle, auction, and this year we want to do a domino fall! There are great food items provided for attendees and volunteers, and it does not include rubber chickens!

There are many ways you can help! Please send us an email: Kathy@arroautism.org, text or phone: 503-351-9255. Thank you!

An Evening for Autism
An Evening for Autism is a fun event with lots of welcoming people. Come and have fun while raising funds for a worthwhile cause! We have worked hard to have an autism-friendly event that everyone and their family can attend. This is an important event that raises funds for ARRO, so that we can have projects like the Family Holiday Assistance Project that provides Kroger gift cards for families in need during the Winter Holiday season, supplies and tools to the ACAP adult activity program, woodworking tools for the Community Workshop, and website resources such as the Medical Information support group and medical research review. There are many activities that we would like to do, but we need help to make them happen. We need volunteers for various events like this one, Sean's Run 5K walk and run and 10K run in the fall, and Autism Rocks in October. This is the place where someone with an idea of things that need happen can find a welcoming reception!

🚨 Volunteer Opportunity: Help Transform the Property of a Local Army Veteran 🚨

We’ve been made aware of a meaningful opportunity to assist a disabled Army veteran currently recovering in a rehab facility following recent surgery. With no immediate family around, a kind neighbor stepped up to request help on his behalf.

🏡 The Situation:

The front yard is heavily overgrown, with grass reaching 2–3 feet tall

There are numerous feral cats on the property, creating sanitation concerns

The work will be extensive and hands-on — perfect for those who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves

This project isn’t easy — but that’s exactly why it matters. When no one else can step in, that’s when we do. We’re seeking a dedicated group of helpers who are willing to tackle a challenging but deeply rewarding cleanup to bring this veteran’s home back to a livable condition.

🔍 Important Notes:

The request came from a neighbor, so we are working on establishing direct communication with the veteran himself before beginning any work — this is essential for transparency and respect.

Due to the nature of the property, safety precautions will be necessary, and this may not be suitable for all volunteers.

🙌 How You Can Help:
If you’re in or near the West Valley City, Utah area and can assist with mowing, trimming, cleanup, or coordination, we want to hear from you. Whether you’re experienced with yard work or simply want to lend a hand in any way you can, every effort helps.

Let’s show what compassion in action really looks like.
