Broadmead Care's Shred-a-Thon event itself is very simple! We will have a large shredding truck stationed at the lower end of the Veterans Memorial Lodge parking lot, ready to shred up to 300 boxes of paper! Starting at 9:00 AM our community members will be lining up in their vehicles eager to drop off their paper documents for shredding. The day goes by quickly, and is fairly steady throughout.

Our roles as volunteers at the event will be to keep things moving swiftly and safely. I am hoping to have two shifts available starting at 8:45 – 11:00 AM & 10:45 AM – 1:15 PM. You are of course welcome to come for the entire event or anywhere in between based on your availability.

We will have a few different roles available for you:
1. Greeters/ Directional Help – These folks will be stationed at the entrance of our event and will help waive down our community members who may be looking for the right entrance.
2. Box Runners – These folks will be collecting boxes from vehicles and bringing them to our shredding drop zone area and helping dump into the shredding bin.
3. Box Sorters – These folks will help manage the boxes that get left behind. We will need help breaking down boxes and getting them into the recycling bins after the paper has been emptied.

This event is an important fundraiser for adults with disabilities living at Nigel House.

Event: Monday, June 20, 2022. 7:30am to 5pm, Hamburg, NJ.

The Wiegand Farm Golf Classic is a one-day event that benefits persons who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. It is a lighthearted, fun day that welcomes over 300 golfers from across New Jersey and includes food, raffle prizes, and a silent auction. DPD provides residential, vocational, spiritual, and social services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. DPD empowers each person to become active, contributing, and valued members of their community, and to participate fully in life with dignity and respect. This year, a portion of the proceeds will benefit other programs operated by Catholic Charities including: newborns and their families in need of special health care assistance, children age 3-5 in early learning programs, teenagers, veterans of all ages, people struggling with addiction, Immigrants and migrants, and senior citizens in need of food, shelter and friendship. Volunteers will work alongside our DPD volunteers who also receive services at the group homes and day habilitation center. Volunteers will arrive at 7:00am and are asked to help with registration, set-up, contests on the course, and post-event breakdown/golfer checkout. Food and refreshment will be provided.
