The social impact of illiteracy cannot be understated. It is estimated that 1-in-5 students are adversely affected by the presence of a learning disability. We're going the extra mile to help our children read, raise awareness and reduce the stigma of Dyslexia. In the effort to break the cycle of poverty and ensure educational equity, funds raised by the event will directly support families who are financially not able to access necessary academic support services for their child. Please join us as a volunteer, form a team, inquire about board opportunities. Thank you.

My name is Casey Lenihan, Director of the Horizons/ECSU Transition Education Partnership. I work closely with Mary Hamilton, Teacher with Horizons Transition Education Services. Transition Education is for students who are eligible for special education through their local high school.

Horizons is a private not-for-profit entity that supports children and adults with developmental disabilities. Horizons’ main office is located in South Windham. Horizons supports individuals across eastern Connecticut. Students from Eastern have been making positive connections and contributions via Horizons for the past 20 plus years including community service, employment, media projects and internships.

The mission of the Horizons/ECSU Transition Education Partnership is to provide students with disabilities who currently attend local high schools with their transition education on the campus of Eastern. The focus of this transition education is three fold: academic access, vocational/career development and campus membership/community access. Horizons Transition Educational Services focuses on vocational/ career development, community access and independent living skills.

Students have been working on refining their job development skills over the course of the year by participating in community-based vocational instruction settings, learning about the parts of a job application, learning about employment paperwork as well as preparing for a job interview.

Horizons would like to challenge students further by creating an interview event where they can participate in interviews with local employers.

Horizons would like to invite you to participate in the second annual event as an employer interviewing Horizons students. The event will be held May 23rd at Eastern CT State University. More information to follow. We look forward to hearing if you are interested and available to participate. Please contact Casey Lenihan at clenihan@horizonsct.org.

Sincerely,

Casey Lenihan

VisionWalk is a FUN fundraising event of the Foundation Fighting Blindness, a 501C3 tax-exempt organization. Over 10 million Americans are affected by blinding retinal diseases including macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa and Usher syndrome. The Foundation Fighting Blindness is working to find treatments and cures for these devastating diseases.

You can make up whatever shift you want, starting at 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

We are looking for volunteers to help with everything that will help make walk day a success! From setting up the event early in the morning, to staffing our tents (Registration, T-shirts, Refreshments, Resources), to helping with kid's activities, greeting walkers, staffing the walk route, and helping us clean up afterward. They are all pretty easy assignments.

Every 4.5 minutes a child is diagnosed with AUTISM, according to the CDC. In fact, autism has become more common in our children than cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined! Join us as a volunteer and help B.I.A.N.C.A. create a brighter future for over 8,100 children with autism in San Diego County & their families.

B.I.A.N.C.A. is a 100% volunteer-run non-profit organization with no paid staff, dedicated to serving children struggling to cope with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). We provide help and give hope by providing reliable information, promoting best practices, and offering comprehensive resources for families, practitioners, and communities.

We are looking for volunteers to help during our auction. Please consider volunteering your time to help us raise the funds necessary to continue to help families in our community access critical services and much-needed support.

We are looking for volunteers to help record the winners of the silent & live auctions and distribute the winning items. There is no public speaking involved :)

Did not know about the secret key word till we called to get an update on the status of the application submitted in 2018, so please excuse the last minute request. Having 5 volunteers from Kohls makes a huge difference so please consider our request...THANK YOU!
