Have you ever wondered what the world was like before everyone had a device in their pocket that could answer just about every question you can think of? When there was no Bing or Google to ensure you could get to your destination without delay? Have you ever heard of a "Party Line"? Wondered what it was like during the depression, summer of love and more? Friend to Friend America, recruits and trains volunteers in the community to visit one on one with lonely and isolated seniors. Our volunteers tell us they get so much out of their visits and the seniors love them too.Would you be willing to sit down and talk to someone for 1 hour two times a month? You can talk, play games, have a cup of coffee and make a seniors day. Visits are scheduled at a mutually agreed upon time and can be as short as 20 minutes though we would like the senior to have as least 2 hours of connection with another human every month. We need you. Senior isolation and loneliness is one of the top 5 risk factors in ill health in seniors. 6 out of 10 seniors never get a visitor from outside their home if they live in a senior residence, adult family or nursing home.

Volunteers are a vital part of Northland Therapeutic Riding Center’s therapeutic riding program, donating 5,000 hours each year. They say there is something magical about the barn and the camaraderie of the volunteers, staff, and riders. “It feels special”, volunteers say, “to be part of a program that makes such a difference in so many lives.”NTRC needs you. Experience with horses is not necessary for all positions since many volunteer positions extend beyond the barn. Volunteers can assist as horse leaders or sidewalkers in the therapeutic riding classes, grooming and tacking of our special horses, or share your accounting, writing, photography, computer, or organizational skills with our center. Whatever your talent or interest, there is a perfect place for you at NTRC. Volunteer schedules are flexible. Volunteers need to be 14 years of age or older and in good physical condition to lead horses or sidewalk with students.
