Help 59 yr old Disabled Veteran in Springfield, OH w/ Lawn Services as Volunteer. From client, "I am a disabled veteran of the US Air Force, active duty 1982-1992. I sustained a back injury in 1988. I have been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and at the last count, I had 4 disc\'s that are completely gone in my lower back and have been basically replaced by arthritis. I haven\'t had an MRI in over 10 years but I know I have disc problems in my upper back and neck as I can\'t stand more than a few minutes without getting a headache. I can\'t stand or walk more than a few minutes at a time without extreme pain. I am on a fixed income and I hate to ask for it, but I really need some help, if possible, as long as it\'s not a bother to anyone. Our town charges $50 if your yard isn\'t mowed, I have been lucky to avoid this. My oldest son lives with me, to care for me, but he has back issues also and is usually unable to do the work required. I had a lawn mower but someone took the gas cap and it went through the winter without it. I can\'t get around enough to try to fix it, if I had the mower, I could maybe do my yard a little at a time. For now, I bought a $20 weed wacker and we have used that to try to keep the very front of the yard cut down. The town can\'t see the rest of the yard. As for snow removal, it is my greatest concern as it can range from $20-$50 per storm and I can\'t afford it. I live in a small town in Maine and there are no jobs, so all the kids that could help, leave as soon as they are able to. I have a claim being processed by the VA, it was submitted almost 4 years ago. It will double my income. If I get approved, I will surely write back and cancel any service from your organization as I will be able to pay for lawn care and snow removal. I would never take anything from someone else that was in greater need than I. I know you have no one in this area who volunteers, but maybe someday, you will. If my disability wasn\'t so bad, I would volunteer, I think it is an excellent way to help people. Thank you."For more volunteering opportunities sign up as a volunteer for I Want to Mow Your Lawn at https://iwanttomowyourlawn.com/volunteer-sign-up/

HIGH PRIORITY: Help 67 yr old Disabled Woman in Fairfield, OH w/ Lawn Services (equipment provided). From client, "I am in desperate need. The utilities in WV are so high that by the time I've paid my electric and water, I'm broke. Lawn care is also very expensive, the cheapest company wants almost $200 and the fines will be $1000. I have had a stroke, MS and A-Fib, my 10 year old grand son isn't old enough to cut grass, my daughter was recently diagnosed with Lupus and is paralyzed in her left leg from an on-the-job injury she received while working as an LPN, and my son is bed fast due to several medical conditions. I am in desperate need of help. I know you don't have any volunteers in my area but anything even an idea of someone else to reach out to anything. If I end up in jail I don't know who will care for my children and grandchild. Thank you."She has received a violation notice from the city due to her overgrown lawn.

Help 61 yr old Disabled Veteran w/ Cancer in Hilton, NY w/ Lawn Services as Volunteer. She has served 17 years and 9 months in the Army until she was in a car accident that left her with 13 herniated or bulging discs. She was medically discharged. This April, she was diagnosed with non small cell carcinoma in both lungs. It is inoperable due to her COPD (she would never make it out of the anesthesia because her lung function is so low). Needless to say, her husband has been taking care of her for several years due to her breathing problems. On May 31st this year, her husband was in a horrible motorcycle accident which put him in the Trauma Unit for 2 weeks at Strong Memorial Hospital. A man pulled in front of him and he flew over the handlebars, hit the man’s windshield with such force that the windshield was inside his car. Her husband flew over the roof and back of the car and landed approximately 30-40 feet away. By the grace of God he is on the mend. He sustained a break in his back at T-5, a fractured left hip and elbow, multiple broken toes and a broken right collarbone. As of last week the neurosurgeon said his collarbone is approximately an inch and a half away from joining the remainder of his collarbone. By the end of the day, he is in incredible pain just trying to take care of her.For more volunteering opportunities sign up as a volunteer for I Want to Mow Your Lawn at https://iwanttomowyourlawn.com/volunteer-sign-up/

HIGH PRIORITY: Help 71 yr old Disabled Veteran in Bay City, MI w/ Lawn Services as Volunteer (equipment provided). From client, " I worked for the DoD for 30 yrs as a civilian. But in 04 volunteered to go to Afghanistan for a year with the Army Corps of Eng. During a rocket attack, I was evacuating the building and missed the last 4 steps and fell and broke my back, 5 compression fractures. I am now 70 yrs old, just went through a divorce after 40 yrs to a 30 yr marine corp vet. I could not afford to stay in California on my disability retirement from civil service so I moved to bay city Michigan. I have NO family or friends here and I haven’t been welcomed here on my street. I live on $1000.00 a month and struggle. The neighbors complained about my yard and that I was ghetto. So I am having to pay $100 a month for a guy to cut my yard. I really need help. I haven even been able to unpack because the boxes are top heavy. I hope u can help me. I get nothing from the government but a medal for going to Afghanistan and a certificate. But what I did get was a slap in the face with the WAP program against woman who worked for civil service and were married to military a deduction in money received. I gave 30 yrs of my life, 26 yrs working for the marine corps assist battalion level 4 yrs with Army corps of engineers with a volunteered trip to Afghanistan only to be left poor and living below the poverty level. I hope u can help me because that would save me money that I really need. I hate having to ask for help. I have had to ask for food stamps so Michigan gives me $15. The story is long and depressing and I never thought I would end up like this. It’s a hard pill to swallow. I know there are no volunteers here in bay city but hopefully a kind person close by that is willing to help. I do have lawn equipment but I can’t use it with my walker or cane I have tried. Thank you so much for reading this."
