Legacy Brisbane is reaching out for wonderful volunteers to help at our annual Canungra Combat Challenge (C3). The Challenge will be held at the Kokoda Barracks in Canungra on Saturday, 15 June. Approximately 70 teams of four will push themselves mentally and physically through a 7km or 10km course of obstacles, bush trails and soldier exercises, testing team dynamics, communication and resilience. The route will involve running, equipment carries and river crossings.

The funds raised throughout the C3 campaign go towards supporting the families, widows/widowers and children of those who have served our country and have been injured or killed as a result of their service. Legacy Brisbane provides both financial and social support to the dependants in its care; ranging from supporting school fees, uniforms and books for children, to hosting social groups for widows to be able to interact and mingle with others to ensure there is no social isolation. Legacy Brisbane currently cares for more than 6,700 widows and 250 dependants across Brisbane and its surrounds, Sunshine Coast and Rockhampton/Central Queensland.

The volunteering roles available are:
• Assisting ADF personnel with Course Marshal
• Time Keeping
• Registration Support
• Start and Finish Line support

Free parking is available on site and breakfast/lunch/hot drinks will be provided. As the event is held on an active Military base, photo identification is required for entry.

This event relies heavily on our wonderful volunteer support, so please contact Beth Nelson on 0423 857 933 or bnelson@legacybrisbane.org.au if you are interested or if you need any more information.

The purpose of this volunteer activity is to coordinate community support group meetings for Hydrocephalus Canada (HC). Support groups are powered by the sharing of common experiences and concerns. They are a collective exchange where you may find answers to your individual needs and a place to find others who know what it's like, where you're not alone. This safe environment sets the stage for mutual support and
encouragement, comfort, information exchange and positive feedback. This atmosphere can also provide personal growth, closer inter-personal relationships and increased self-esteem. As an Adult Support Group Organizer, the volunteer will research interest for a support group in your community ie. telephone calls to adult members and search suitable locations to hold meetings ie. Community centers, libraries, etc. HC can assist with this task. As well, the candidate will organize/coordinate and facilitate HC support groups in their community. HC's Toronto office will promote each meeting through mailings, website and flyers. The ideal candidate will have good organizational and people skills, a pleasing personality with the ability to relate to people at all levels and walks of life and a keen interest in spina bifida and hydrocephalus or willingness to learn and understand more about these conditions and other disability issues.

Experience facilitating meetings would be an asset.
