This special event is in support of our Early Youth Employment Services (EYES) program, serving youth with disabilities across the Metro Atlanta area in partnership with area schools. Through workforce readiness training, educational support, and post-secondary exploration (i.e. college, career, etc.), the EYES program prepares youth with special needs for successful entry in the workforce following high school graduation. In the spirit of a Trunk or Treat (socially-distanced tables/booths will be set up rather than vehicles), this community event will engage our students with disabilities, ages 14-21, and their families in fun, fall-themed activities while utilizing social distancing and CDC guidelines. Youth are encouraged to dress in costume representing their career aspiration. This year's event is especially important due to the additional barriers faced daily by students with special needs at their families as a result of COVID-19. These youth and parents need and deserve an opportunity for respite, connection, camaraderie, and social interactions with other families navigating the similar challenges of special needs during the ongoing pandemic.Available Shifts

The Forget Me Not Project is a weekly memory café that offers elders suffering with dementia or Alzheimer’s a place to socialise, take part in activities and receive a hot, nutritious meal. All the members are over 70, retired, and many live alone due to their circumstances e.g. lost families, friends or their families live far away. During the COVID-19 outbreak, many of them are facing a long period of time alone in isolation. The person that runs the group has been keeping in regular contact with the group and has been sending activity packs to keep their spirits up during lockdown. The Forget Me Not Project would like volunteers to write letters to their members as a way to boost their energy. A simple letter or card is a great way to show that someone is thinking about them, even if you don’t know them.
ELBA will host a workshop over zoom for people to create their cards and letters. ELBA will provide some background to the Forget Me Not Project, guidelines and some inspiration for your letters. The members of the Forget Me Not Project often take part in arts and crafts activities so love to see other people’s creations. They really enjoy pictures of nature and animals so you could draw a scene and include it with your letter. Or, if you prefer to just write a letter, you could use the session as a chance to talk with other volunteers for inspiration of what to write about.
Workshop agenda:
10 mins: ELBA and Forget Me Not Project introduction
15 mins: Guidelines and inspiration for letter writing
25 mins: Time to write your letters
10 mins: Share letters, follow up details and session wrap up
