The Lighthouse Group offers our participants a chance to experience "independence" in the great outdoors. Lighthouse Camp is the only pay for event that have as we provide all of the other services free to our participants. For those that can afford to go, they get to take a vacation from their families and explore nature and adventure. The participants get paired with some volunteer leaders for this 3-day overnight event. This year we are heading to the Irvine Ranch Park. We are also offering a Saturday only experience this year to allow some participants that cannot afford the cost of the full weekend. We are looking for people to volunteer and make this an amazing day for all of our participants. Whether you can just volunteer for Saturday or if you can volunteer for the whole weekend, we truly appreciate your heart to service this amazing group.
So... why Lighthouse? A little about us - The Lighthouse Group is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping adults with special needs in the Orange County. Lighthouse has been operating in Orange County since 2003!
At Lighthouse, our participants meet weekly for "Club," an hour and a half of social time, games, crafts, and a chance for our adult participants to connect with others in a safe environment. We also host community outings and events such as holiday dances and bingo nights. The reason why Lighthouse is such an important part of our communities is that once young adults with special needs graduate from continuing education or high school programs they are often left without a community to call their own. That is where Lighthouse steps in and aims to serve.
Not only does Lighthouse benefit the community at large, the Camp is an event that focuses on social connections, heath, wellness, and simply being outside! It also provides much needed respite for the families who take care of them.
Volunteers are not charged anything for coming to camp. Meals are included for all of our volunteers! If you would like more information about our camp, please fell free to reach out to us at Lighthousegw@gmail.com or visit our website at https://thelighthousegroup.org/.
