This is a volunteer role for a Board Treasurer. The Board Treasurer will be responsible for reviewing the financial aspects of the organization, including financial statements, and preparing a yearly budget. This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that the Board Treasurer be located in the greater Milwaukee, WI, area. Most board meetings are conducted virtually with some in-person meetings.

The ACAP board meets 10 times per year (with breaks typically in July and November). In addition to attending ACAP board meetings, the Treasurer leads a monthly finance committee that also meets 10 times per year virtually.

ACAP brings adults with disabilities fully into community life through adaptations, advocacy, consumerism, and volunteering. Our boundary-pushing programs help individuals grow in skills for home and community independence. Led by experienced staff, we provide a full range of services built around the goal of community inclusion.

Join a meaningful initiative to support Claire and her two sons, who are facing immense challenges following the loss of Claire's husband to Alzheimer's. The family, including her sons on the autism spectrum, struggles to maintain their home due to limited income and considerable caregiving demands. Their yard, overshadowed by a precarious maple tree and featuring a deteriorating deck, urgently needs attention.

We are seeking compassionate volunteers with skills in landscaping, carpentry, and general maintenance to help make their home safe and welcoming. This project offers a unique opportunity for corporate teams to give back through tangible actions that directly impact a deserving family. Transforming their neglected outdoor space into a safe and beautiful environment will not only improve their quality of life but also provide them with a serene place to heal and grow.

Step forward with your team and demonstrate the power of community and corporate social responsibility. Engage in this project to bring safety, joy, and peace to Claire and her sons. Together, we can rebuild their yard into a sanctuary of hope and togetherness. This is more than just volunteering—it's a chance to make a lasting difference and show what we can achieve when we unite for a noble cause. Join us and contribute to a project that rebuilds not just a yard but a family's future.

Proms are usually designed for people who can see. Our teens go to these proms but they can't enjoy them the way sighted teens do and they are often the only visually impaired person at the event. To ensure our teens experience a prom to the fullest, we hold them at no-cost and we invite teens just like them from other Lighthouses.

Our teens tell us our proms help them socially—they learn how to dance and mingle, and they make life-long friends. They also make important memories that remind them that they fit in, are important and unique, and that they can do anything. Therefore, the prom helps them adjust to vision loss successfully.

Volunteers are needed to help with decorating, set up, handing out gift bags, serving food, assisting teens as needed, and tear down. We hope we can engage up to 5 volunteers to help for the amount of time they are able. Volunteers work for 3 or more hours and are provided with an orientation to blindness, drinks, food, and breaks as required. We appreciate any help we can get!

Learn more about the Ball by reading about last year's event: "Blind and visually impaired teens get the full prom experience at Lighthouse."

Please wear comfortable shoes as you will be on your feet most of the time if not all. If you feel unwell on the day of the event, please let us know and stay home.
